HST's and loco hauled stock will always be superior on longer journey's simply because the design allows them to have a more 'saloon' feel than an EMU or DMU.

There is a plan on how to implement the HST2 new build but as yet there is no design, they can't even make up their mind as to whether it should be diesel engined or gas turbine driven.

Whatever happens the Great Western mainline will get them first as they are the ones who use them most currently.

The ECML is OHE, so why would they put voyager style DMU's on it? For one thing if the 225 was built in the same manner the 125 was, whats to stop it lasting another 20yrs. If thats the life it has, why replace it.

We may end up with a Pendolino style train yes, as this would add capacity to the train. or we we just be loosing the loco? (cant remember if a 225 is 10car including Loco & DVT .

On a side note ive read on various sites that rail vehicle builders are beginning to move abroad as they see a down turn in demand for new trains coming in this country. Especially as almost every private TOC now has stock to last it well into the future.

Normally '91' at the north end, DVT at the south end, and 9 Mk4s between. Unless I've got a reserved seat on the train, when that coach will be missing... :-? .
