Rush Hour Chaos - ATN 144 Unit Derailed at Huddersfield

Post by ArrivaTrains »

Hi, Just need to report on another sh*t shift i did today.

This evening (tuesday 07/09) in the rush hour 144021 (3 car unit) derailed whilst entering platform 6 at Huddersfield, effectively closing the station (due to track layout).

There were NO casualties, and the unit is not that badly damaged either from what i saw when i passed it at 5MPH.

It seems the points changed as the train passed over them (sending the rear 2 coaches towards platform 4).

I was due to work a Newcastle - Man Airport train through Huddersfield at 18:13 but did not pass thru until 19:25 ableit at 5MPH :-?

The down lines remained closed for the rest of the day, with the Up line being a 5MPH speed restriction. Due to lack of drivers with route knowledge i was then stuck in Manchester until a driver who 'signed' the calder valley line (i sign it) could be found :x

After finding a driver, me and him worked a 'special' (1Z52) from Manchester Picc to Leeds via the following route:-

Man Picc (Plat 8 ) - Ardwick (reverse there) - Picc (again) plat 14 - Chat Moss (reverse) Man Vic - then through the calder valley to Sowerby Bridge (turn right) - through Elland, Brighouse & Mirfield to Dewbury (drop off) - Leeds (at last).

I have just finished work, 3Hrs and 10 minutes late

The train has now been re-railed, but the station remains 'shut' until the morning. If i find out anything else ill let you know.

Its amazing how long we keep lines closed for, its so stupid IMO. Many other countries seem to have things moved or replaced well within 24hours, they wouldn't dream of disrupting the next days travellers. So why do we?

Chaos huddersfield if its that bad up north bloody hell i would want to sign any route up there. should have been here when we had a 150 off the rails in abbeyforgate yard blocking the up and down wolves lines the line was closed all day (lack oof access to the unit). the 150 was eventually lifted on the tracks using a road railer equipment lorry with mobile jacks and about 50 orange coat and 3 suits were invovled

A recent incident in HK on 10/9/04 had an LRT derailing when the part of the wheel broke off at a point. They managed to re-rail it and get everything back to normal in 2hours.
