You know you're a pilot when you drive off a cliff, and your last words are "Gear up!"

Those 150's have very attractive liveries and the full weight of the Law, as well as two class 150 carriages should be used in this case.
Of course, the farmers's been using that route for hundreds of years wheras the railway has only been there since around 1870 and so is clearly innocent.
Sorry, could resist that
Hope all those involved soon recover?

Translation of Copkeir:
We had an accident at the Dean Forest Railway. A lorry ran through one of the crossing gates.
Ouch, I had visions going through my head of it being a Voyager or HST.

As usual, it's the farmers fault. Possibly an overloaded trailor stopping him from slowing for the crossing (which doesnt have gates) or the fact that they just try to beat the trains!
The line is still closed, nobody's too badly injured.
If anyone's interested, I videoed the rerailing train they used to clear it up going back upcountry last night - see http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/jdvideos/66-rrt-bp.wmv
150237 is badly damaged, expected to move to Par under its own power at 15mph for assessment, and further movement probably by road onto whereever they take mashed up trains
Never thought we'd see wessex trains go tractor bashing down the newquay line

When are people going to learn that railways are a dangerous thing and that trying to get across a level crossing before a train will usually end up with you getting hit by a train?
As usual it's going to be the tractor drivers fault but the railways will get all the bad press.

Theres a level crossing on the line to Skegness which has seen the incidents before. Its an ungated unmanned crossing near to Wainfleet station. the last incedent was a class 158 and a small lorry
. Drivers must treat trains with authority. Did anyone see the incedent at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and that is a narrow gauge railway
.
Don't know how well you know the area, but do you mean Matt Pitt's Lane crossing? I remember an incident there a couple of years ago now - an elderly gentleman failed to see the lights flashing, and drove into the path of a DMU. The one you mention - was that a case of trying to beat the train? I know they travel deceptively slowly as they accelerate away from their station stop!LNERandBR wrote:Theres a level crossing on the line to Skegness which has seen the incidents before. It's not the only crossing on the route that's seen accidents though - Swineshead (between Sleaford and Boston) has, sadly, seen a few serious ones. One lady crashed through the half-barriers, and came to rest on the Down Main (but clear of the Up Main). In her efforts to clear the crossing, she then moved forward into the path of a Up train. I feel for the DMU driver - he described the last few seconds as he approached, in an interview with the local paper.
Beyond Sleaford, a couple of years ago, we were on board a '158' returning from Nottingham, when we hit a van that had lost control on the approach to the crossing. Luckily no-one was injured - the van driver was clear of his vehicle - but the van disintegrated in spectacular fashion. It's not nice watching bits of van fly past your window, and I didn't enjoy watching the (train) driver wandering around in shock afterwards either. Incredibly, a couple of passengers commented - to him - about his poor driving skills
