New SWTrains Timetable

Post by WAT3212 »

Look like there is going to be a major change to the SWT timetable commencing in December. I dont have much info on specific changes, but generally trains will depart at the same minute(s) past each hour throughout the day, and will depart from the same platform each time, rather than the platforms continuously changing throughout the day....anyone else have anymore info about the changes?

Sounds like a clockface timetable. Thinking about it, do SWT share much of their route milage with other operators (excluding Virgin)?

I think Wessex use some of their routes.

They share Basingstoke - Bournemouth with Virgin, Brighton - Southampton with Southern, Reading - Wokingham and Ash - Guildford with FGWL, and that's about it as far as major route-sharing goes. There are other little pockets, such as Salisbury Tunnel - Wilton Junction, but the majority of SWT routes only see SWT trains. (excluding freight)

As far as I know, the new december timetable will take advantage of the improved performance of the desiros (cf mk1), as the vast majorty of mk1s will be gone by then.

As for the platforms business, that'll be to do with diagramming. Not my specialist subject. Now, electrification, on the other hand...

Overall, SWT doesn't do that much route-sharing (in terms of train-miles). Between Exeter and Plymouth/Paignton there's the usual FGW/Wessex/Virgin mix. Through Salisbury (Wilton Jn - Tunnel Jn) is shared with Wessex, and Wessex also share between Romsey and Havant (incl Portsmouth and Eastleigh), and Dorchester Jn - Weymouth. Southampton and Portsmouth to Havant is shared with Southern, who also share Epsom to Dorking. With FGWLink: Reading to Wokingham and Ash-Guildford. There are some routes where other operators share with SWT (ie SWT is second-fiddle to the Franchised operator). Bristol-Salisbury is one (Wessex), and Reading-Brighton is the other (FGWL, Wessex, Southern).
