Scotrail Franchise "claims"

Post by rjhowie »

I noted in a newspaper piece here in Scotland that it waxed on greatly about the plans First have now they have got the franchise. Included were the re-opening at Alloa, the Larkhall Line and others. I don't know whether the paper did themselves or "First Scotrail" are claiming the credit but these re-openings (including the Dawsholm connection in West Glasgow) were on the go long before First came on the scene so why should they get the credit??
It will be interesting to see how they do. Train times here were amongst the best in the UK and certainly much of the Strathclyde PTE area where I live the train times are excellent. Maybe with the other plans they are trumpeting we might get round at last to see someone actually DOING something about the long needed re-connection over the Clyde via the old St Enoch's approach bridge?? Now that would revolutionise rail traffic in the Lowland belt.

Carmine and Cream is a PTE livery - they won't get rid of it because the service contract between Scotrail and SPT most likely states the livery of the trains on SPT-sponsored routes is to be as specified by SPT. Exceptions can be made for short-term stock cover, and non-PTE services which call at stations within the PTE area (ie those originating from outside the PTE area) do not have to be PTE-liveried. This is in spite of the fact that passengers boarding this service at a PTE station will be buying PTE-sponsored tickets. Certainly in Birmingham, all Centro-sponsored services (Cross-City, Coventry-Wolverhampton, Snow Hill Lines) must be operated by trains in the Centro approved livery (ie Class 150s and 323s).
