M&GN Here, but as that included in the poll, it'd have to be the b@$t@rd$ that took over from 'em, LNER.

LNER for me, despite my youth I grew up with A4's, Flying Scotsman, Blue Peter and other great LNER locos on preserved railways and mainline railtours

Great Eastern, of course.
What othe railway had such glorious Royal Blue locomotives with varnished teak coaches;
Which chose to standardise the safer Westinghouse brake rather than the feeble vacuum of all the others;
Which ran the most intensive steam hauled service in the world from Liverpool Street;
Which hauled more passengers from Liverpool Street than any other railway;
Which was the first to use oil-firing as a solution to an environmental problem;
Which ran the longest non-stop run without water troughs;
Which holds the world record for building a steam locomotive from scratch (under 10 hours - and it went straight into revenue service);
Which ran some of the most handsome and efficient locomotives in its T19 and Claud Hamiltons and 1500s;
Which had two 'maid-of-all-work' engines preserved (a J69 and an E4) at York;
Which built the most powerful tank engine in the 0-10-0 Decapod;
Which built some of the slowest and quirkiest locos, the Trams, limited by law to 8mph.
but of the choices offered - the LNER

Surely these are not fair points as only the GER ran from there. Surely the GNR ran the most intensive steam hauled service and hauled more passengers out of Kings Cross then any other railway, likewise for the GWR from Paddingtonthenudehamster wrote:Which ran the most intensive steam hauled service in the world from Liverpool Street;
