How does this work then ?
I was stuck in Shepperton last night due to flooding at Fullwell.
We were waiting for a bus when the train crew said they had clearance to try and get back to Waterloo.
Off we went.
Just before Fullwell, the entire trackbed was a pond. All 3 rails were underwater.
I presume the train was running on batteries? the conductor rail must have been short circuited.

Yes - that was earlier in the afternoon at Hampton, but had been cleared.WAT3212 wrote:A tree fell on the railway line between Teddington and Shepperton aswell?
Then it flooded.
Not a good train month for me - the Shepperton trains were cancelled last tuesday due to flooding at Clapham, now starting next week I have to endure 3 weeks of hell on the trams while they dig up the Thameslink line from Sutton to Wimbledon.
A section of line, which incidently was built in the 1920's with assistance from the loco in my pic on the left, which was SR number 1556 at the time, which I have also modelled

Water woudln't cause a total short circuit in the same way that putting a bit of metal between the live and the return would
so the Potential Difference between the Return and Live would not be 0 as it would if a total short circuit occured.
Was it deep enough to cause Bow waves?

Would still have been interesting to watch what happened if any ducks tried landing on it.nwallace wrote:Water woudln't cause a total short circuit in the same way that putting a bit of metal between the live and the return would

Dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually the duck would probably have to earth to get fried.
Might be enough heat generated for a slow roasting though.
