Sleeper Steaming

On thursday, at Surbiton Station (South West Trains) i entered platform 4, and what appeared to be one of the wooden sleepers on fire...

upon closer inspection you could see a fag had been thrown onto the sleeper...and it started smoking the sleeper...you could see the smoke was increasing...so went to the platform assistant room and they said "we are already aware"...

but did they do anything about it...NO!?

Surely this is not right?
