metrolink was due to run less than 75 metres from my house with a station 100m away, i'm a bit pissed off with the government for letting us down. the elr extension would be nice but i can't really see it happening, too much enginerring work will need to be done.

Can't you tell they no nothing about trains?
Councillor Duckworth wrote: "I call my vision ‘curry and steam'," he said. "Visitors can eat at Rochdale’s many restaurants, view the canal, pick up bargains at the shopping centres or visit Touchstones and the Co-operative museum."
Or altenativly you could just spend a day on the ELR.

Councillor Duckworth wrote: You could hop onto a tram from the town centre to the train station and enjoy a day out on a locomotive.
What? A footplate ride?! :P
Councillor Taylor wrote: "The locomotives would be a breathtaking sight; I was talking at a seminar recently when a steam engine rolled past outside and everyone suddenly lost interest in what I was saying."
Hum... even a J94 might be more 'breathtaking' that his seminar...
