Class 507/8's

Post by skipperdipper »

Does anyone actually like the Class 507 or 508's? I travel on them regularly. I think they are very reliable as they never seem to fail (apart from 508127 and 508143 wich both failed after they returned from Eastleigh. The refurbished units are very nice, they are:

507007
507010
507011
507020
508103
508104
508108
508110 (The one with the odd front end)
508112
508114
508120
508124
508126
508127
508131
508139
508140
508143 (Not named Capital of Culture)

What was the point of naming the bloody thing if Merseyrail only go and remove the nameplates after the ceremony. If the nameplates were going to be removed then why did Merseyrail bother getting in Celebrity's to name 508143? Seems daft to me!

Hi

Don't all of the refurbs have the new front end and livery then? What is the odd fronted one then?

Cheers,

508110 ( :( ) has a non-standard paint style, mainly above the windows and around the destination display.

Look at the destination display on these two pictures:

If they were stolen, how come there aren't any scars on the bodyside? :-?

Like the very similar 455, they arent likeable in any way, they are just good at doing what they do.

Personal opinon but they are excellent trains having "known" them since I was 4, would be nice to get the Connex ones back on Merseyside as well. Just come home on 508104 tonight, probably the roughest running of all the refurbs I have been on. Next few due back in the next 6-8 weeks are 507018/507019/507023/508128 (plus 508122/508123 which have been at Eastleigh for nearly 2 years).

Cheers

508301-508303 (ex 508102,508135,508142) were stored since 1998 on Merseyside (West Kirby & New Brighton) at the same time as the first ones to be refurbed for Merseyrail (508108/508110/508120/508122/508123 & 508131, plus 508118 which got burnt out, one car survives at Immingham of all places), they went to Eastleigh at the end of 2001 and entered service end of 2002.

I don't think we will be seeing 508123 on Merseyside again unless the Eastleigh staff realy work the Eastleigh magic into it. Just have a look at the state of it. Note the car refurbished as a mock-up for the real thing is painted in Arriva colours on one side and the trial Merseyrail livery on the other side.

It is coming back, I have seen a later pic of it (03/04) where you can see the unrefurbished DM completely gutted ready to go into works. All 59 units are being done which includes 508123 (32 x 507 & 27 x 508 which leaves 12 x 508 with SET, 3 x 508 with Silverlink and one scrapped out of the 43 built)

I ddn't know 507018/019/023 were down at Eastleigh! I keep a list of all the 507's and 508's on Merseyside and chang them when the 5X47 and 5X61 come along. About time 019 was down at Eastleigh anyway, and 018 is very tatty after it's little bump at New Brighton a while back. When I saw it stored outside Birkenhead North, the dent was bigger then I thought. In July the same year, I saw it again, in Crewe Works? In about Novmber, I saw it again, and I saw the Bombardier boys did a great job of it!

Thanks

Rob
