Everywhere I go it seems to be the same 2 people who do the station announcements, one male voice and one female voice. The male voice is the same person who does the "please do not leave cases or parcels unattended anywhere on the station. Any unattended items will be destroyed without warning", this can be heard on the London-Brighton MSTS addon. And the female voice also does the next station announcements onboard London Underground trains, i.e "the next station is Piccadilly Circus".

Are these people voice over artists who have previously done voice overs for TV ads? Could they be famous actors/actresses who have appeared in many TV shows & films? Or are they just unheard of people who work for Network Rail(or whatever)?

And have you noticed that the station announcements are often played simultanously, making it impossible to try and work out what each announcement is saying?

If its pre-recorded concatenated speech then it could be either someone famous lending their voice or a voice over professional.

As part of a multimedia audio lecture the lecturer made us listen to Anthea Turners voice being strucg together in words as part of the Odeon booknig service.

You can tell if its a concatenated system on the basis that the words never fit together properly

It's just words that they string together. I used to know both their names - think the woman's sarah? I bet they got paid a fair bit for that - and it's instant fame

I'm sure that bloke who does the station announcements used to be a Channel 4 continuity announcer.

On the Central Trains website is the womans name. I cant remember the blokes name though.

Many European trains have this sort of thing but actually on the train I.E

The train is now arriving at Birmingham New Street where this service will terminate. Please make sure you take all your belongings with you the train-crew bids you good bye.

Or something like that, is this set off by sensors in the track? Also why hasn't Britian adopted it?

Quite a few British trains have announcements like that "We will shortly be arriving at Reading, please change here for Oxford, Banbury, Guildford, Basingstoke (etc)". I think it's just done by train staff though.

The driver presses a button maybe?

On stock older than that, it the driver, IE 158s and possibly Turbostars down. Sometimes its the conductor though.
