Livery is staying the same, just a new name

Looks like its based on the original station running in boards. Before London Underground nicked it LOL.

We invented it!!! - Southern's... honestly! lol
A lot of stations already have this branding... I think it was Thornton Heath (?) was the last one I saw.

Nope, just staying Southern.

Thornton Heath and Selhurst stations already have the branding, I saw them putting the signs up at these stations on the 1st of May as I passed by.

Not sure about Uckfield. But I have a picture of a 171 with the new writting in my book at work. Basically the same with a few alterations.

Who knows? Not sure I like it too much. This is one of the many things opposing me to them getting Kent. Just because you change your name to hark back to an era when trains were "reliable", you can't expect to magically change a service too.

A most excellent choice of name! Certainly 'Southern' (South Central) are changing their act, with the new livery and new trains. When I travelled on a '377', the only complaint I had was that it hadn't been through the washer recently. But otherwise excellent. The livery is possibly one of the best currently out there - a nice mix of thoroughly modern and the traditional. All the Southern needs now is a GM of the stature of Sir Herbert Ashcombe Walker himself.

The last 377 I saw was almost black, but I think that is due to engineering works going on at the depots putting the washes either out of action or just no time to do it cos of all the disruption

In the morning I get a 12car 377 and they are all cleaned. South Central are now "deep cleaning" them.

"Southern Railway" is a superb name. Now if only SWT would rename themselves "South Western Railway"...

But how can you call any company that runs 375's, 377's, 376's, 465's, 455's and any other sets of injection moulded plastic be called a railway? They are just over sized hornby train sets with a group of boys playing railway in an office on blackfriers bridge road.
Railway is a very dated word if you ask me. Far to many associations and trying to hark back to "the good old days" of british rail. Sadly, it's going to take more than a name change to convince me that riding on a bit of plastic is better than an EPB. When maintained, at least they worked!

Prob slightly bias though as SC are bidding for SET franchise and i'm keen to see that stay with SET. (see sig) At least until the Intergrated Kent Franchise is fully up and running.

Southern don't have 375's, 376's, 465's or 466's only 377's.

That's a bit pedantic saying they don't have any 375's...

I don't know if the entire fleet of original 375's have had their couplers replaced yet but even if they have many of them are still basically 375's just re-designated. OMG I'm being equally pedantic.

To me a 375 is the 2+2 stock with limited leg space and the unnecessary over abundance of concert hall sized disabled toilets. A 377 is the stock with the 3+2 L shaped seating and with the existing 2+2 seating as well but with more generous (ie for people above 5' 6" in height) leg space and "old fashioned" small toilet cubicles.

I still don't understand why they were so keen to displace the refurbished 319's. The current "Brighton Express" (standard uncomfortable Electrostar stock with a 10p "Brighton Express" sticker slapped on the first class compartment glass partition) still ain't comparable to the 319/2's. There must be a lot of happy people travelling back from Watford Junction these days. Before anybody eagerly jumps in to post about the 319's going back to Thameslink, calm down! Take a deep breath! The Brighton Express 319's are still used for the Brighton to Watford Junction services.

I agree with arabiandisco about the "New" suffix. That's similar to what I thought when I first heard about it. South West Trains is fine to me though. It's not like they could claim Great Western heritage.

Well the 319's doing the Watford services are being replaced by 377/2's. I've seen 377208 at East Croydon coming back from a test run.

375's are now renumbered 377/3's and there are 64 377/1's now in service. 377120 - 377139 are 2 + 3 seating the rest are 2 + 2 seating. I've been going to East Croydon everyday on the 07:17 Eastbourne - London Bridge service which is a 12 car 377. 377150 - 377164 all have new interiors, seat covers and yellow hand rails. Also different carpets.

319's are eventually going back to Thameslink.

As with the leg room on the 377's there are three places to sit. In the disabled area, seats to a large table or the priority seats, they have a little extra legroom. There are two toilets in a 377. A small one which is a pain to walk in and a big one for disabled passengers.

Is that pedantic?
