Class 103 DMUs in departmental use

Post by rufuskins »

I note that Class 103s were used for departmental purposes, and have the following queries:-

1. Did 50937(975137) and 56160(975228) operate as a pair on Viaduct Inspection duties?

2. 56156(977047) was used for Sandite duties - can anyone say what unit it may have worked with, as my research to date has not found out?

Thanks in advance for any help, Alec

I believe that these sandite DMU cars were hauled/propelled by locos,

So far I haven't been able to find any pictures, and reference to locomotive sandite pools have been current.

Any indication of likely locomotive allocation to the period when the Class 103s were used for sandite duties would be much appreciated?

In hope, Alec

I have managed to find an elevation for a Class 103 departmental unit as part of the "Viaduct Inspection Unit No 1", but this suggests that the livery was a dirty cream/ochre including the cab front?

Is this correct or should it be in some other colour; e.g. BR Blue?

The lettering was shown to be in Black.

Any help would be very much appreciated, Alec

Hi Alec

Judging by the photo i have found of 975137, i believe it would have been in Yellow (as per the 97650 shunters) and its just faded badly

Regarding the sandite cars being hauled by locos. Probably whatever the nearest depot had spare?

Thanks for the reply and info.

I was aware of the photo - see my earlier post today in WHAT ARE OTHER SIMMERS DOING thread in MSTS General - and it is what I'm basing my repaint on.
