Skegness Station - Maybe a silly question

Hi

Sorry in advance if this sounds a stupid question. Lol

This coming Saturday (9th April 2011) 70013 is doing a tour from Kings cross to Skegness (http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t11/t0409a.htm) and I am thinking of going to see it at Skegness to take pics.

This is the silly question.

Looking at some pics of Skeggy Station it looks a little bit like Blackpool as in you are not allowed on platform until your train is ready to board. Is this true?

I do not want to travel all that way only to find out i will not be allowed on the platform.

Dave

I'm not sure about the station, as I've never been on it, but check out Google Earth, there are plenty of spots
to get some shots, the bus station on one side & Morrisons car park on the other.
So if the platform is 'Out of Bounds' when you get there, there are other places within minutes. :D

Just a thought, have you tried phoning the station & asking if platform tickets are available ?
Could be worth a try, just don't tell them when or what for.

I went on a tour there on a Thumper a few months ago, and I had no problems there whatsoever.

I wouldn't want to go to Skeg to take pic's. Half the station buildings have been or are being demolished

I was thinking of going for 2 reasons.

1. I get to see a steam loco in a place i not seen one before
2. my son gets a day put to the seaside

I'd admit it's not often we get steam on the Skeg line. However what I meant to say is they are in the processes of demolishing the buildings so there's rubble everywhere.

If you head to the far end of the platforms you'll get some better pics but there are better places along the line to go.

My plan is to head to Little Steeping Level Crossing. Film form there then beat it to Thorpe Culvert as it's got the South Curve at Firsby to go round which is a slow speed restriction as it's the remains of the old junction with the East Lincs mainline.

Hi

I emailed East Midlands and this is the reply I have got
At Skegness you are able to access the concourse, however you can't access
the platforms unless you are making a rail journey.

I have spoke with the manager at Skegness and he has advised me that, as
Skegness is a terminal station, you get a very good view of the trains from
the concourse.
I guess Health & Safety comes into this.

Thanks for all the comments

Dave

Get yourself down there Dave, even if you don't get the perfect picture, what you do get
will be better than nothing.
Besides, your lad will enjoy a nice day at the seaside, that's got to be a good thing on it's own. :D
