Basically got a day out of work Monday , and am going for a spot of train watching, never get much time too these days.

Now i live in Blackpool and usually go to Preston station and watch here, but where else gets a lot of action apart from Manchester and isn't too far away.

Much appreciated if anyway one can help ... Tom

Hello Tom,

It depends on your budget, train travel can get a bit pricey these days...... :(

I would look at the following for any ideas, you can gen up by surfing the internet on various areas for where to go, remember it might rain, so, you don't want to be stuck in a farmer's field anywhere.....

If you're going to Preston, then either North or South from there - Carlisle and Kingmoor Yard, Acton Bridge (just south of Warrington - which is a high level and low level station), Warrington Bank Quay, Crewe or Stafford. These are good areas for freight trains as well as those pesky passenger offerings.

Cheerz. Transport Steve.

If you want a nice mix, Warrington Bank Quay, Preston and Acton Bridge are always best. Acton is the best really as all you'll miss is the coal shunts for Fiddlers Ferry, but its always a pain to get too.

I'm a Warrington local and Bank Quay is always a good show and we have some good local bars here too!
