East Midlands Activity?
Over the years, MSTS, and now RailWorks, have rekindled a love for trains I had prior to my teenage years. While I have no desire to start trainspotting again - I'd get far, far too OCD about it! - I'd like to go and casually watch a bit of activity. Thing is, I have no idea what the East Midlands is like in terms of rail movements. Anyone care to share knowledge of good places to watch or point me in the right direction?

Barnetby / Wrawby Jcn is good for freight traffic.

Trent Junction (north of East Midlands Parkway) has around 12 EMT services an hour.
North of Derby (try Duffield/Belper/Ambergate way) gets 10 trains an hour (EMT and CC) along with a few freights.

A little further north Dore station in Sheffield is OK as well you get a pretty good view of the MML (there is only 1 platform at Dore, which is on the curve to the Hope Valley line) with 2x EMTs on Sheffield-St Pancras Services, 2x XC services in each direction an hour (Reading-Newcastle/Plymouth-Edinburgh) as well as the hourly Northern service Nottingham-Leeds. You also get the hourly TPX Cleethorpes-Manchester service in each direction and the EMT Liverpool-Norwich services which pass twice (they come off the Hope Valley line through the station, reverse at Sheffield and pass again on the MML heading South and vice versa. Finally there is the 2-hourly Hope Valley stopping service (Hourly on saturdays) and occasionally there are freight trains coming off the Hope Valley line.
