What Do You Think To The New Liveries?

So, it's been a good number of months now that companies have changed hands and we're seeing a lot more standard liveries, rather than the awful mess that Virgin started with half sets of virgin coaches running around. Central trains always had odd stoock :P

LONDON MIDLAND
I personally, quite like London Midland's livery. Everywhere I have seen it, it looks pretty smart:
Image
Class 323's look a lot more modern than the old Centro livery. The Class 350 looks like it has a home now instead of the hideous grey and purple scheme! Class 153 looks okay, Class 321 again looks stylish, the Class 156 looks nice and to top it all off, the Class 86 with a rake of coaches, doesn't look too bad with it on either - although I guess this isn't real? :S

Arriva Cross Country

Again, a pretty stylish livery, when you take away the big X - I never understood that. Silver always screams executive to me, like I will travel in style and comfort. The Class 170's have seen better liveries but it isn't bad. It fit's pretty well with the 220's and 221's too, which unfortunately make's Virgin's red stand out a little too much now for me. The soothing deep colours are pleasing to look at.

First
Image
Yet another livery change for First. I know this incarnation has been around for a good while, and on the HST's, it does look good. Keeping the engine a solid plain colour has done it wonders, although I am certain Virgin started that trend, rather than trying to make the 43's fit in with the rst of the coach stock.
Class 158 - doesn't look good, not on the Class 156 either. The old Transpennine Express livery was the best I think. Just something about the livery doesn't suit the train and I don't think ever will. The Class 185's wear the livery well, much better than what the old livery would have done to them. It'd be good to see what it would have looked like on the 180's.
It doesn't suit the Class 166's at all. There is something that when I look at it, it looks like someone has just done it on a computer in the mid 1990's.
Finally, First Capital Connect is another variation of their colour scheme. Looks nice, but not on the trains.

East Midlands Trains
Image
Not a new livery as such, but new livery to the stock and the more I look at it on the HST, the more I like it. The Class 222's had a good look with the Midland Mainline livery, but the EMT colours all over it make it look a bit more like a toy. It's that strong blue that does it. The Class 156 doesn't look too good with it on, sort of out of place, but Regional Railway's livery has always been the best one for 156's. It does kind of get worse with the Class 153.

Northern
Image
Again, I know they have been around for ages, but I just though I would say I don't like any of their liveries and wish never to see it. The colours are boring and look like a bunch of nice plants. The Metro livery was pretty good, shame now it's gone! Whether it was this livery, or this livery, they all look bad.

National Express East Coast
Image
Not sure on the whole slanted lines thing on the HST sets. The livery itself though isn't bad. Now what I said about the silver before, this is not a good example of it, although the white and silver together make a good contrast. As the franchise was short lived, I will be glad to see a new livery (hopefully) at some point in the future.

I can't think of any more "new" liveries on old trains, but what do you think?

I'm quite a fan of the standard Northern livery as applied to 158s. Northern do have a few different variations though, the worst being that applied to their 321s.

If you count the 357's as old trains then i prefer the new white scheme over the old "purple people eater" scheme. Plus it doesn't have the National Express grey diagonals on the end of the carriages either. They've almost returned to how they were originally delivered.

Cheers

I personally think they're all fine apart from EMT HSTs which look completely ridiculous in that loud blue colour they've painted the power cars. MML was much better.

Yes, I agree that it looks reasonably nice !!!

However, what happens when it gets to its destination and the loco has to run around the train - unless they have access to a nearby electrified triangle to turn the thing around, it's going to look pretty gastly heading back the other way with the loco 'wrong way round' - what do you think ???

Unless, it is used ONLY in a push-pull format with a Driving Trailer at the other end !!!

They are all terrible.

I think the only good post privisation livery was the GNER one. Simple, classy and generally pleasing.

Waaay to much colour and geometric shapes going on nower days. Its a whole graphic design package.... its a train.

Of the new liveries, I like:
London Midland
East Midlands Trains on 158s and 222s, but I miss MML on HSTs
Cross Country on 170s, the Voyagers still look horrible (Can't polish a turd)
Colas Rail
Northern
Wrexham & Shropshire (I normally hate Silver, but for once it actually looks nice)
DRS Compass, it's not bad
GBRf Barbie, though I much prefer the original
LoadHaul on 50035

I don't like:
National Express East Coast
National Express East Anglia "White Stripe over ONE livery"
First Great Western "Bland Blue" on Power Cars
WCRC Maroon
Grand Central
DB Schenker on 37s

I think Northern and London Midland are quite nice liveries, the later varient of the former anyway
http://www.freefoto.com/images/43/10/43 ... MU_web.jpg
even looks good on Pacers. The WYPTE versions on the 321s and 333s though are pretty bad, 321s particularly. The Northern 156 in the original post was one of the earlier liveries that was tried, which thankfully was not continued.
EMT looks quite good on HSTs, especially the power cars. The coaches are at least better than the later MML livery, which I hated. White and Silver, with Light Grey doors? The dark green was nice, but the band in the middle just made it look cluttered and messy. Wasn't the nicest green on the powercars either IMHO. The original MML was much nicer.
Cross Country is good too, and I think suits all 3 types that wear it. I do like the use of Maroon, as AFAIK it's not been used since the original British Railways Coaching Stock livery. Probably not intentional, but it does have a historic thing to it too, as Maroon was the LMS livery (and previously Midland Railway) and quite a bit of the Cross Country network is on former LMS or MR lines. The MR built the main spine of the XC network from Bristol to York via Birmingham.
For temporary liveries, I thought that NXEC and NXEA branding ontop of GNER and one liveries looked quite good. For the former, it was GNER but with a white stripe instead of the red/orange, which I thought actually looked better. For the latter, it kept the good parts (the base colour was alright, and the black around the windows was nice) added a white strip, and got rid of the rainbows.

Tell me that beyond being a bit worn, that isn't one of the better liveries the 90s have carried (I never thought they, or the 91s, looked that good in Intercity).

Does anyone else get confused by the EMT livery because they're too used to SWT?

I quite like the TPE 185s - it sort of suits them.

And I like DB Schenker red (but I'm also used to German and Swiss liveries, which use a similar red).

FGW's livery was best in the late 90s (the green livery).

And who owns the 31s in dark brown with a red stripe down the side? They look smart in that.
