10 Worst railway stations
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8363621.stm
I use 3 on the list on a very regular basis, however I'm amazed that Chester isn't up there, as I've commented elsewhere, that is the worst 'mainline?' station that I've ever used.

Re: 10 Worst railway stations
Hmm intresting, but guessing for Crewe, Wigan North Western, Warrington Bank Quay, Preston all the money was spent on upgrading the WCML and none went to the stations, Out off those i've been through, for just looking at them Preston does need work to it.

I can't personally see anything wrong with Barking, its just like any other station in my opinion.

I would only imagine that Clapham Jnc is on there because of the lack of parking. Seeing as it's mostly a place to change trains, and is well served by buses, I don't really see a problem. In fact, I haven't seen anything wrong with any of those stations which I've visited recently.
Also note that the BBC describes Network Rail as a 'rail operator'.

Of course, none of them are close to being in the bottom 10, they're just the ones people have moaned about the most. I'd have any of those stations before Wakefield Kirkgate!

Cant see how Manchester Victoria is the "worst"
I'm also pretty suprised how Birmingham New Street hasn't came in the top 10.

Re: 10 Worst railway stations
It would be interesting to learn the actual criteria for determining the "Customer Satisfaction"?
I suspect it would encompass such things as Car Parking, adequate platform seating and waiting rooms, Toilets, refreshments, ease of access etc, etc,
Manchester Victoria certainly rates very low in most of the above categories, but saying that (here I go again), Chester is much worst, being, dare I say it, In my own opinion, generally filthy! I've had cause to complain on more than one occasion when the floor of the Gents was several inches deep in urine... not nice, and goodness knows what impressions that gives to tourists, in what is a Tourist type City.

Re: 10 Worst railway stations
it amused me that in the article on the BBC news last night, many people were complaining about the fact that the roof leaks at Manchester Victoria. At least they've got a roof unlike many stations.
My local station waiting shelter hasn't even got a roof at present!
Accessibility is also a major issue - step free access to both platforms, but no step free access from the ticket office to the other platform.
Whilst I understand the need to keep the mainline stations looking good - money needs to be put into maintaining/improving facilities at local stations as well.

BNS is already getting redeveloped so wouldn't need a share of the £50m.
What about Wakefield Kirkgate?

Re: 10 Worst railway stations
I use the majority of those stations throughout the year, and to be honest, I don't think there in dire need, granted they need some TLC, but so do alot of the networks stations. My question is how much money was spent on this survey?
Plus what about the smaller local stations/halts that are dilapidated, vandalised timetables, no seating, shelters that smell, no/little lighting and graffiti, notice non of them are on the list
