Western Routes

Post by LucaZone »

Im a bit confused, theres loads of coverage of the N and NE sides of the UK, but virtually no support for the West Side or west london routes like Paddington / Reading / Oxford / Birmingham / Bristol / Southhampton / Basingstoke. IS there something ive missed on here?

Would love to see these routes created, and im willing to help and provide resources if anyone is interested. :)

Pure luck really I reckon. IKB did a welsh route but had a lot of 'issues' with it and it was pulled. There have been many 'mentions' of GWR and Southern routes but none seem to have materialised. If UK Finescale has 3rd rail, there should be no reason why decent Southern Electrified Routes can not be produced.

Personally, I'd like to see Paddington to Bristol/South Wales - in fact all of the old main lines should be done (LMS, GCR, WCML, ECML, GWR etc etc)

If you want to go all the way west there is the GWR Ruabon LLangollen Bala route by Gordon Mackenzie.

There was some discussion a month or so back on Penzance-Paddington in the route-building forum. Any news on this one? Would be top of my wish-list (esp Exeter-Newton Abbot - paradise! -yes PLEASE!) but a daunting task I imagine.

Cheers,

Yes that has gone awfully quiet - mind you it was never properly announced, just dropped into the conversation when someone else said they were going to work on one!

Western Route

Post by alisterbetts »

I know it's not a 'western route' but its in the west (and it would've been my local route) but whats happened tothe S&D? After my succesful dieselisation of the Llangollen route, this line is perfect for Cromptons and Peaks!!!! If only....... The Weymouth route via Yeovil would be another choice - varied scenery, interesting signalling a couple of corking gradients. The ultimate still has to be Taunton-PZ - I just look forward to Hemerdon in the rain !!!

Im gonna take a quick run upto london, with my trusted digi cam. I can get about 400 shots on one disk, so i intend to capture most of the stations between Slough & Paddington. Prolly take the best part of a morning.

Start building up a catalogue of the route :)

On the subject of western routes, what happened to Highworth? Did it get slain by the RE or is it still alive?

Despite some strong counterattacks by the RE we can confirm the route is still alive, albeit under siege :(

CHaring X - Dartford IS progressing, all the stock is complete, and with the advent of finescale I just need to work out the size of platforms and stuff.. The only thing fictional will be the land contouring..

Highworth WILL be completed, almost certainly this year. We have licked the worst of the problems (or at last we now know what the main culprit is). A bit of investigation into trees is taking place at the moment (don't ask!) and a few (ahem!) objects will have to be removed as the scenery is a bit too dense for poor old MSTS to draw it all, but we'll get there!

Please don't expect smooth-flow frame rates, although the trains will be short and few and far between so that's a help.
