a wise move i think, it doesnt pay to do too much at the first hit.

Both Ideas work well though, theres the Rob T approach of producing the route once all the terrain/ trackworks done then adding the scenics after or do a shorter section of the route fully completed.

I must admit I would have been pretty screwed had I done the full ECML since the signalling system has been changed twice since I started it meaning a complete resignal of the route which takes time when you have to ake the old ones out first.

I go for the gradual approach, doing short sections of completed route, saves you having to go back again!

Wolverhampton Low-level

Post by 46009 »

Up until the early 1970s Wolverhampton had two stations. Wolverhampton High level was the old LMS station (and is now the current Wolverhampton station) and is perched on a large viaduct. Wolverhampton Low-level is the old GWR terminal from London Paddington and sits directly below the viaduct (hence the name Wolverhampton low-level). The station was closed to passengers around 1970-71 but remained open as a parcels depot for a few years. The track down to Low level was lifted when the local freight terminal was closed. The large low-level station building is easily visible from Wolverhampton High-level (the chimneys are almost as high as the viaduct) and I would have thought it should be included in any representation of Wolverhampton either modern or old. The platforms still have tracks by them, but these end almost at the end of the station. If you want a picture of it go here

http://www.geoffspages.co.uk/raildiary/snow1/wll.htm

Wolverhampton high level is immediately to the right of this photograph (running the parallel to the platforms of Low-level) about 100 yards away on the viaduct.

i just to to re affirm that as my route has a high fictional content
wolverhampton (my one will probably look nothing like the real one)
and as my route is based in the 90's this station wouldn't be much use although i may put it on as abandoned as it is now

I'd be interested to know how much of Birmingham New Street you are planning to do... Unfortunately I have a fair amount of experience with the swinging crossovers, wotsits, dooberies and just plain wierd junctions that are used there to get from, say, the Cross City line to Platform 1 - If you can get even half way close with the track sections available in RE, you deserve a major award!!!

Good luck!

If I were you I would use UK Finescale track, I actaully find it easier to use than the default track,

The scale is better, and you can fit more track in a given area :)

I live in Wolverhampton it does have only 1 level now Wolverhampton but it used to have low level as well although the station is still there is basically unsafe crumbling ruins and hasnt been used for decades. i believe that it is being knocked down to build a shopping centre with connections to Wolverhampton station which is situated on a viaduct. (Breathes heavily) basically mate wot the dude who is doing the Wolverhampton to stourbridge route means that he doing it in the past and also it will be fictional as the real route only got slightly further than Wombourne.

allypally: Umm... As a (not crumbling that badly actually!) listed building owned by English Heritage, I very much doubt that Wolverhampton Low Level is going anywhere for a long time, unless someone changes the law!!!

As for the Railway Walk, that goes a heck of a lot further than Wombourne - believe me, I have walked / ridden it many times, heading towards Wolverhampton from my home at the time in Wombourne.

PLEEZ PLEEZ PLEEZ extend it from stourbridge to Kidderminster!!!!!! you could then have Steam on the WCML!!!!!!!!!!!

I went with the SVR junior club to wolverhampton station once and we had a tour courtesy ot the British Transport Police. It is a wonderfull station (WH Low Level) and still is pretty intact (it still has a CCT In one of the platforms!!!!!!!!. Also apparantleyif u walk about a mile down the line you can see the remains od a steam engine where the line collapsed and fell into a marsh!!!!! (im not sure how true that story is though)

madmardy: Evidently you should be asking BTP Wolverhampton about that...

Unfortunately I'm stuck either in Deep Sticks 9 or the middle of Birmingham alternately for the forseeable future (with the odd trip to Stoke on Trent Signalling Centre when we have another "discussion" about the kit we're installing - the boss gets that pleasure today...) so walking anywhere is out for a while. :-?

Hymek: You can have steam on any route you want anyway... Just write an appropriate activity! :D

I don't suppose they said which direction said train-with-a-siking-feeling was residing, compared to WLV LL, did they?
