Virgin Mk2's - What are they like inside?

Post by rufiky4 »

I'm currently working on repainting the excellent MK2F models into Virgin livery, but I can't remember what the insides of these coaches look like, since it's so long since I travelled on one (Damn Voyagers... ). Does anyone have any photos/colour advice?

Cheers
Chris

Very useful... I mean the colours of the seats etc., as I don't think the Virgin MK2F FO has the same orange seats as the orginal blue/grey version.

Last set of Virgin Mk2s I travelled on were West Coast ones which have greeny blue seats like the West Coast Mk3s. Only been on cross country loco hauled set 5 times and the last was just over a year ago so I'm not 100% sure but I think they were in the standard Intercity red but then again the last time I travelled on one it was in IC colours so might not have been refurbished.

I think it's dark turquoise green in standard class, and red in first.

I was on one years ago and I seem to remeber veneer side panels and brown seats (I think it was a former 1st coach)

are those the coaches that look like the seats are park benches with padding...?

The seats were indeed a dark green with I think yellow spots. Same as on the XC HST coaches
The walls were covered in lino style stuff, similar to that in the Intercity Mk3's.
This post is worth what you paid for it.

To what are you referring - the real vehicles or the models? If the real vehicles I don't see the analogy. if the models, you go and make a low poly seat that won't screw up low spec machines whilst providing the opportunity to have a reasonably detailed interior. Or perhaps you would prefer no interior and non-alpha windows. Would make my and others job a lot easier when repainting if we didn't have to try and research what moquette was used when and how and what interior colouring was used and when.

By the way, Virgin XC Mk2 stock had a green standard moquette with a yellow "dogstooth" pattern in it. Windows 98 used to have an identical bmp for use as a desktop pattern, which could work if you changed the colour for the Virgin green and yellow. I know, I used it once!

Have a look in buffy's IC Swallow HST Mk3 1st Class set, the seat colours are the same as the Virgin ones....May be worth asking Dave if you can use the texture for the Mk 2's

Also my Gatwicks have tried to reproduce the red/purple IC interiors, although it's not great. Maybe you could have one set with each type of interior, with different running numbers.

Cheers everyone, I'll have a poke around in the DB HST folder and see what I can come up with (with permission of course!) and investigate the Windows 98 wallpaper.
