Hums to self, "I'm the Captain of the Pinafore.........

Post by CaptainBazza »

This may be the one and only pic posted of this vessel, MV Aramoana, currently under development, my Premium account runs out next week. It won't be available until after the NZ Otago (South Rail) route is released in a couple of months, or so.

I didn't mean to post a pic pre-release yet, but I'm suffering the MSTS 2 Blues :drinking: GLUG!

Splendid choice!

Built by Dennys of Dumbarton who built a large number of ships for the railway companies in the UK.

Fitted with 6 English Electric engines too, the marine equivalent of the engines installed in BR's Class 40s.

A bit more information here............

The Sewdish isn't to hard to figure out

Cheers,

Andy.

Update MV Aramoana

Post by CaptainBazza »

Thanks for the URL, mate. How strange language is, a URL with 'fart' and 'crosswind' in the same address, it's a weird ol' world.

Hope the crosswinds didn't catch you out!

faktaomfartyg roughly translates to facts about ships (I think  )

Aramoana's a nice looking ship, you've captured the shape well.

Photos of the rest of the fleet at

http://www.faktaomfartyg.crosswinds.net ... d_rail.htm

and the whole site's worth a good wander around...

http://www.faktaomfartyg.crosswinds.net/index_eng.htm

How many polys for a ferry, I'd be interested to know, I've got some drawings lying around that I'd like to put to use.....

Cheers,

Andy.

Now that's scarey

Post by CaptainBazza »

Ummm, so "fartyg" is a "ship"? Boy, John Masefield would have had rhyming problems with that. " ....and all I ask is a tall fartyg and a star to steer her by." Hmmmm, loses something in the translation, I think

Re polys, I've been up as high as 5,500 on other ship models, without too much of a hit on FPS. I'm no good making alpha textures, musta been dropped on my head as a child, so I just model whatever in 3d :-?

Missing pics

Post by CaptainBazza »

Most of the pics at that site seem to be missing. Pity, the two small pics of the Aramoana are excellent top views, I'd like to see them in the larger size, but they show as 'missing'. :o

Strange, they work here................

It's a slow site at times, might be worth a number of tries......

Cheers,

Andy.

Sad thing is that there is nothing left of Dennys (lived next to the old ship yard for 2 years before moving to the banks of Loch Lomand, well Balloch anyway,7 miles down the road) all that is left is the water tank for testing models of ships, and that is in a small museum.

To think that the QE2 was built in Clydebank at the world famous John Brown ship yard, nothing left of that yard now all got pulled down about a year ago.

Sad really

Another yacht and another look at MV Aramoana

Post by CaptainBazza »

A moored 18 ft semi-cabin, old fashioned yacht has been uploaded and should be available in the next 24 hours, I guess. Model totals 570 polys and is animated to simulate the movement at mooring. Due to a bug (in the sim!) the animation wont work with animated water texures, because the yacht does a nice stately roll about her axis, so set animation off.

Here is the latest Aramoana (ro-ro) progress pic, little work done in the last month due to other commitments. (Rendered solid/outline)
