Class 71 v2 preview

Post by crompton »

Almost finished, just needs a few details sorting out.
Revised class 74 which has been missing for ages now will follow the class 71 releases.

Cheers

There can surely be no denying that whilst rail blue is all well and good as most of us remember this for the majority of our lives, the locos all looked great (when clean) in their original liveries. After all, the livery was considered during the design phase. Just look at the class 47s, 55s, 76s etc in their original liveries.

I should really post a few screenies of the green version as it stands now as it has progressed quite a bit since this shot was taken.
Anyhow here are some shots of 71007 in blue, again there are still some small details to sort out but it is now very close to being finished.
The cabview has also been worked on recently and I will post a shot of this when the time is near.

These should now be available for download in the first half of September.

Cheers

Fantastic, I particularly like the texturing and gubbins on those bogies. The model looks heavy which is a sure sign you've got it right. I was never a huge fan of 3rd rail, despite living in the heart of it's empire much of my life, but I could be converted if I have this beaut to drive.

Hi All and thanks for the kind words.

To answer your question first Dave the third rail texture is my own reskin of Tim Booths superb uk finescale v3.0, only problem at the moment regarding uploading it is that Tim seems to have gone AWOL and his site and e-mail aren't working so I shall have to wait for his permission, I have also redone the tunnel interiors with a dark dingy brick texture.

I hope that Tim is o.k. as I know that he must have been very distressed at hearing that his uk finescale might not be MSTS2 compatible.
Never mind I say as I really can't see MSTS2 being that big an improvement over the first release and certainly wont released be until some time next year now at the earliest.
Please if you read this Tim keep up the excellent work and continue with all of your MSTS projects. I will still be using MSTS1 for a long while yet!

40058 (Steve?) I have lost patients with the darn MSTS development tools so many times now I very nearly binned the cds. But as you all are probably aware MSTS even with all of its faults is very addictive!

I did send out a very rough "Alpha" version of the route to a couple of people and even though the TDB rebuilt perfectly every time (for me at least) and the route would always work for me in the main sim the activity editor always crashed, there was no point in a route that people couldn't create activity's for!.
I tried all of the usual tricks including going back a fair distance with the back ups but it was not to be. At this point I decided to concentrate on my model building as I can do this with not too many problems these days!
Of course I had already done much research including field trips and photography etc etc, and also had a fair few models designed especially for a built up city (i.e. low poly) so have gone back to te very beginning, extracting new world tiles and laying the track from scratch again. The route is very similar to the previous versions (don't ask) except I have tried to do the trackwork more prototypically in the areas that I was unsure of and of course after all of that practice the trackwork is also a lot smoother that before. I really enjoy having a drive down this route as it "feels" about right, also I will be dropping the semi-fictional moniker and just calling it "London and SE", i.e. fictional but heavily based on the real world, this will also give me the modelers licence necessary for all of the buildings on the route otherwise you would probably be installing MSTS4 before the route ever appeared.

The above screen-shots were taken at the embryonic Crystal Palace station which is one of the first locations where scenic work has again been started although I still need to do a fair bit of trackwork to get back to the size of route that I was at before. I daren't post any updates just yet because as sod's law dictates that is when the problems start to arrive.
Be sure though that I WILL be making a route and it will be available sometime................!

Lastly and by no means least Martin

From what I have seen of Highworth I will be a convert to the joys of all things kettle like and west of the Meridian! I have already started driving all of the SR steam locos available especially Decapods and Kims, and am absolutely in awe of Pats superb 1920s Skipton & Carlisle route, even though this era is not really my cup of tea.

Phew I've been waffling tonight.

All the best

Once again, to add to the praise, that loco looks incredibly realistic, as are your 47s. I am totally impressed.
