Northern Ireland Railways stock

Post by snowcrashandy »

Previously posted on the Five foot Three bit.............

Northern Ireland Railways 80 Class DEMUs, the DEMU that BR never bought, based on a Mark 2 bodyshell rather than the Mark 1/EMU body that BR's versions used.

As well as the DEMUs in a number of liveries, an NIR "Enterprise" set will follow

complete with a Hunslet/BREL 101 Class loco, currently under construction, pictures of the real thing can be found at.....

http://groups.msn.com/IrishRailwayNews/ ... locos.msnw

Along with some other Irish stock, this will be part of an ongoing project between Mark Wiles and myself (with help from many others) to re-create Irish Railways for MSTS.

Some CIE/Irish Rail stock already built.........

I'm currently planning a series of activities using Rubarb-Barmouth transplanted to the North-West of Ireland, involving cross-border services, NIR and CIE/IE/IR, based around the 1963 actual public timetable that Andy e-mailed me the other day. It'll keep us going until BigVern can sort out his technical problems with a real Irish route. It all depends on how fast I move with the repaints and getting final permissions from some authors for rolling stock repaints.

That's always assuming Gordon doesn't mind me moving Barmouth to somewhere north of Sligo on that bit of the Republic that curves round the back of Ulster, and the branch off from Corwen to somewhere in the Antrim direction....

Move it where ever you like Mark, it will only cost you a bottle of Jamesons

It would be quite quick and easy to change some of the station building ACE files to one of the Irish company colours.

Of course that's the Ruabon route! DUH! I recognise it now... It's just that with the view you used it looks remarkable like it was built using UKFS trackwork.

Yes, the old rusty rail texture is very close to UKFS when viewed from a (long) distance. The irony is I was rebuilding the route in UKFS when MSTS2 was anounced so thats on hold now.

I am going to try and upload the Blaenau branch extension over the next week if it's not too big, got a horrible feeling it's going to be about a 150 Mbyte download though. Once thats out of the way I will do a little conversion pack to change the look of Ruabon Barmouth to something Irish just to tide people over till a real route appears. Probably do CIE if no one objects. May also change the car spawner for something around the 80's to present day. Should be quite a quick job once started.

Markw you have a PM.

Just for interest, the current livery haul for these units is:

Original NIR Morocco Maroon/Carribean Blue as delivered by Andy - oops, sorry BREL (the Derby outfit, not Buffy) to NIR in 1974-8 and which ran in this colour scheme until about 1981/2

Grey/Maroon stripe. 1981-1988-9

(+ Variant with IR branding for the three units loaned in 1988 until 1990)

Suburban red/cream, introduced with the short lived sectorisation of NIR (how on Earth you can sectorise such a small railway God knows) 1988 until about 1992

Blue/Grey with blue/yellow/white striping and NIR logos, 1992-2000 (although units for "Intercity" carried this livery from 1988)

No96, Glenshane. Intercity livery, similar to above. However, this unit ran until 2000 with an ex Enterprise push-pull driving brake trailer and an ex BR Intercity Mk2, and so tended to be used on Londonderry expresses as it was a little more comfortable. The MSTS model reflects this unusual formation using the Enterprise stock that Andy has also modelled.

Blue/Aqua/Grey "Translink" colours 2000 until current.

The 80's also ran as two car units in all liveries, and some had mixed ex-loco hauled trailers with no centre doors and 80 class cars, so there may yet be other versions. Seeing as there are only 21 power cars, this is one case where having a photo is vital.

And that's not including the loco hauled Enterprise cars...
