Rusty Wagon Wheel's.

Post by alan2 »

I have just made some Rusty Wagon Wheel's, for placement in yards or as lineside objects.

I will be uploading them very soon. :)

Hello Martin,

the top detail is 372 Poly's, that includes the wheel rim and full profile.

The model use's LOD (Level Of Detail), set at 75 meter's for the top detail, 200 meters for the next level (72polys) and 650 for the maximum viewing distance (64polys).

They do not effect FPS too much, I placed a dozen, FPS did not even flicker. :) the LOD is just correct, I didn't see the change. at first. :D

Thanks Alan, will go get them. I need about 10,000 rusty wheelsets for the dump at Swindon ;)

Alan - could you do 8-spoked ones? (use a transparency, don't bother with 3D)

Re: Chocks, I don't know for sure, as no photos have ever come my way showing that low inside a loaded 7 plank wagon, which is usually how they were transported way back then.

I'd guess they just loaded the sets, and then wedged them in place any old how with scrap wood.

As they would be down inside the wagon on the floor, only a rough representation is required, just so they don't look like they could roll around???

The inside dim's (in feet), of the wagon to be loaded are:-

Height of floor from rail top 4.3 ft

Internal width 6.7

Length 17

Keep well inside these dim's and all should be well??

Do you want me to fit as many as possible into a wagon as I can. :)

Probably four, they are 3 foot accross. :)

Which orientation should the Anim Freight be?

the wheel is on the X axis ie axel runs <---> in front and top views. :)

Wheelsets would usually travel inside an open wagon intermeshed, or overlapped, not rim to rim. A wagon ought to be wide enough. I can't draw a sketch but if you can grab a photo of a Tiger tank off the net, the road wheels of that were interlaced in the same way.

2 mins later. Um, here's one.

Arguably the best looking tank of all time. It shouts "Want some?" in yer face doesn't it? Pity it fought on the wrong side. :(

Oh dear... we're headed off topic but I can't keep out of this one...

How about the T-34? Now that thing looks sculpted and was way ahead of it's time.

Then there's the German response to the T-34... the Panther! That' a super-sexy beast, and the Jagdpanther looked even more gorgeous.

Then of course for the ulltimate in "You want some?" aggro tanks... The King Tiger. What a ridiculous machine. And the equally incredible Elefant derivative SPG.

At the other end of the spectrum, the good old Brit Cromwell, although a bit naff is a nice looking vehicle, and powered by a Rolls Royce (derated) Merlin engine too. Sounds spectacular and looks lovely thrashing through the North African dunes.

I also have a soft spot for the incredibly ugly British Churchill. Did us proud on the beaches did that 'un. ;)

Feel free to start up a tanks / WW2 thread on chatter Fodz.
