Birmingham Porterbrook Class 170399

Post by lumpchase »

RAIL magazine (Issue 454 Feb 5-Feb18 2003) wrote:CT PROMOTES BIRMINGHAM CULTURE BID WITH SPOT-HIRE TURBOSTAR
PORTERBROOK'S 170399 - on hire to Central Trains - is being reliveried into a spectacular advertising livery promoting Birmingham's bid to be European Capital of Culture in 2008.
It is the first Central unit to recieve an advertising livery, and the intention is for it to promote the city as it travels around the country. Due to go on hire to South West Trains later tis year, it is unclear whether the train will retain it's colours following the move south.
Central Trains' problems with frame cracks on its Class 323s have now almost all been resolved, with three vehicles from various sets laid up at Soho depot awaiting attention for major problems.
The work done in Birmingham brought an ebullient response from spokesman Ged Burgess. "Soho depot have done an incredible job," he said.
Four Class 323s have now had their 'C6' overhauls completed, with two more undergoing the three-week refit.

Good rendition of a distinctive livery.

About time the Birmingham Marketing group got the message out and about that Birmingham is a good place to visit. I'd rather have this sort of advertising livery than that First Group colour scheme - must be confusing for people with first class tickets seing First on the power car and finding their seat is taken by the driver.

IMHO

Personally I dont think its ugly! Sure it aint the prettiest livery in the world but I am pretty certain it aint the worst. I hope to have it available by about Friday. have only done the one side last night that you can see at the moment but I need to change that as well because the "be in Birmingham" is the wrong style - need to make the "be in" thinner (like Arial Narrow is to Arial Standard)

the thing dont look to bad 'in the flesh' (i saw it 7 times wednesday, passing thru my local station) its better than plain old central and W&B green and blue. altho it does look like a bubblegum machine.
