Cracking textures. How big (in pixels) are your ace files, and how many of them do you use?

This particular model uses a 256x256 TGA with 1 bit-transparency for the bogies, wheelset and brake wheels. Another 512x512 BMP is used for the main body areas. All the textures are original renditions with only a few of the finer details cropped from photos and blended in.

This version of the wagon was built and rendered using a series of excellent reference materials that Champy dug out from only he knows where, and without which, the level of detail that can be found on this model would not have been possible.

Several different versions are still in the planning stages. Champy will keep everyone updated as work progresses.

On a personal note, I am indebted to Champy for drawing my attention to this particular type of wagon. He is busily drawing up plans for a lot more "cool stuff" that we will be producing under the Southampton Freightliner Wagon Works banner - so to quote a proverbial "Watch this Space".

A single 512x512 for the body? You guys have done exceptionally well to get the clarity of markings and lettering like that on one ace file. Good work.

I saw several of these a year ago outside the BMW plant in Swindon. Took a few pics but I seem to have deleted them :(

Nice pic Champy, but one quesition has got me. How did u get the shot to be so sharp in MSTS? surely thats not unedited from the game. Ive never see such sharpness, and in some areas high contrasting edges.

Luca - almost certainly done with a sharpen filter at the post-production stage (i.e. in the graphics program - PaintShopPro or whatever).

I do this with lots of my screenies but the above is a fairly grainy example. It works quite well I think and gives a good gritty diesely type of style to the image.

Well sharpen works to some extent. Some days it is good, some days it does not seem to help. But the sharpen MORE filter is a no-no for me. Looks like some arty-farty type has done some dodgy darkroom work on grade 5 Ilford paper.

I love the coating of muck you have managed to get down the side of the Blue Circle wagon, heavier toward the bottom. Would you be interested in doing a texturing tutorial as I think your wagon textures are some of the best I have yet seen - or do you get lucky and have good photos to work from?
