Certainly down to earth with a bump and must be a record for a price drop on an MS product, unless Amazon have done a special promotional deal. however it must be right as I think Just Flight are doing a deal with some scenery add-ons with FSX thrown in and it works out about a tenner for the core programme.

Guess it pretty much sums up FSX though - sold it to the hardcore fans for full whack, suddenly realise there's no uptake outside of that without bargain basementing the price.

I think its problem is its a bit OTT on most PCs

I mean I have Dual Core Athlon 4200, 2GB RAM, 256MB GF7600 and still only get Frame Rates of 5-20 depending on what the game is having to do...

Things might be better when I upgrade my PC in a year or so's time - like FS2004

I've tried the demo and it's playable but graphics are not that hot, I'm due a new PC anyway, just holding back until Kuju Rail Simulator comes out.

The annoying thing for me was trying to bump the order price up to qualify for free delivery without buying something I didn't actually want! Fortunatley you can now order gillette mach 3 blades on amazon so I figured I'd stock up on those as I will use them.

Apparently the Service Patch which has come out significantly increases frame rates - might be worth taking a look now.

Annoyingly, It's not easy trying to find the minimum spec PC required to play FSX at maximum settings, I'm buying a new PC and I won't be too happy if I find I'm underspecced when a relatively small increase in original spec would have produced better results.

Do these specs appear anywhere? - Closest I've found are on Wilkepedia:

System requirements 1.0 GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM (for Windows XP SP2) or 512 MB RAM (for Windows Vista),
14 GB hard drive space (15 GB for Deluxe Version), DVD drive, 32 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card

Hardware recommendation for good performance: > 3 GHz single core CPU (1.8 GhZ dual core), 2 GB RAM, fast video card with min. 256 MB RAM

Those requirements are way, way off!

They are the absolute minimum the software will run on. If you want performance, go for as much performance as you can afford....AND go Vista! With FSX SP1 comes full support for dual processors and DX10.

And a tip from me. Don't go for a NVidia card at the moment...go ATI.

I thought DX10 support was still being worked on for FSX?

I've been looking at a new machine for a little while now but I've not bought one yet as I'm unsure which way to go with regards processor.
I could possibly stretch to a Core2 Duo Extreme or a Core2 Quad.

Been playing about on Cyberpowersystems' and a few other websites toying with a nice spec but spoilt for choice.

I'd be mightly p!$$ed off if I shelled out and couldn't run FSX with relatively high settings but its asking quite a lot in my monitors native res. (1920x1200).

I guess anything currently available would be an improvement on this heap (Pentium D930, 2GB 533Mhz & 256MB 7800GT). Test Drive Unlimited is unplayable on the lowest settings and S.T.A.L.K.E.R runs poorly too.

I notice a performance drop when running through my HDTV at the same resolution as yours (1920x1200),but only on certain games,so ive stopped playing games on it and just watch movies recorded in high defination at 1080p now,its only the file size that frustrates me 7-10 GIG a movie,although STAR WARS attack of the clones is 12 gig groan

OMG - I have just installed SP1 - Massive improvement - most sliders are set high and resolution upped top 1280x1024 and I'm getting a near constant 20fps (with occasional drops to 18 or 19)!

(as opposed to ~15 with sliders on Medium and at 1024x768)
