TrackIR (blatant promotion ;) )

Thought I'd let you all know, I ordered and received a TrackIR system from UKTS.

And how the hell did I ever fly VC enabled aeroplanes before using this thing? WOW! MAAAM DC-3 and WoP Fighters are a blast, and the WoP B-17 can now be flown from the VC at last... Although how Boeing ever got away with such a ridiculously user-unfriendly panel layout is beyond me!

So, all I can say is that if (like me) you were umming and ahhing over one, then just do it! the UKTS price is the best I've seen that includes the hat.

And of course... A hat? Yeah well, to be fair, it's a baseball cap thing which I think look awful on people, but it's a pretty nice one. Linen, fairly decen print, and very confortable. Of course I won't wear it outside, but for sitting in front of a monitor, it's better than I expected.

So there you go. It took me all of 3 seconds to gte used to using the TrackIR once I was in a cockpit, it'll now take me at least 5 years to fly MSFS without it... Perhaps that's a turn-off...

It's a must-buy... Admittedly an expensive must-buy, but boy oh boy... :D :D :D

Oh, and I have no connection with the company that makes it either. I'm just a very satisfied customer.

Gary,

How does it work ?
Does it involve moving your head or just your eyes ?

What is it?

TrackIR 4 Pro is a head tracking system! You get a small device about 1 inch square that fits on top of your monitor like a web cam, and a small bracket that fits on to any baseball cap (a special TrackIR one is supplied free of charge for the first ten orders, a saving of £9.95 based on what some other UK sites charge for it). The clip has three reflective strips on it and the device on your monitor watches them to see how they move, translating that in to an interpretation of what it thinks your head is doing.

This movement is then translated in to instructions for the game you're using so your in-game view changes as you move your head around!

Cheers
Jon

Yep, the unit tracks head movement and translates it to VC movement. And before you ask, there's an acceleration element, so that you only move your head about 40 degrees or so to see 180 degree movement on the monitor, so your eyes stay still (to watch the monitor) whilst your head moves. It's not enough movement to make it awkward or uncomfortable though, and the first few degrees are a lot slower than the rest, in fact it's fully user customiseable. I had to tone down the acceleration to just glance at the gauges etc whilst flying in VC at 1x zoom!

One thing, it's quite easy, especially doing the Snowdon Race mission in FSX, to lose yourself as you swing the plane and your head around in fairly steep and quick turns. That Extra 300 is a real dog sometimes... ;)

Get yourself to Brighton Dave, and have a go on Matts. Unless you don't want to spend £110 that is, in which case leave well alone. :D ;)

Matt hasn't got the Snowdon race mission...that comes with the VFR pack.

But I'll have my desktop there....and I do have the add-on...and the mission!

And, I'm thinking hard about getting a head tracker.......

LOL Doug, I did mean have a go on TrackIR. Hadn't realised that Snowdon Race was a VFR add-on... There you go, learn something new every day.

I would like to get Track IR as it would prove to be useful on IL 2 Sturmovik online episcally when only the cockpit is activate so you can't use the cockpit less view. The way it would be useful on that is that you wouldn't need to use the mouse to look for enemy aircraft.
