FSX Demo + Frame Rates

I can't really see that much difference between the FSX demo and FS2004.
Is it worth spending £42 on the deluxe verion from amazon? (play.com is more expensive)

Also, I'm interested to hear about frame rates - my dual core AMD 5200 with 2Gb mem and GeForce 7850 GT (512Mb) ranges from 25 to 60fps with the demo with all sliders and rendering (AA, Aniostropic etc) options on max.
However - there is not much terrain in the west indies and scenery is a bit sparse, so frame rates should be good.

The deluxe version is certainly worth getting! You get more detailed airports and cities, more missions, and more aircraft. Yes, the demo is a lot like FS9, but the full version is a lot better.

As for frame rates, I'm running a 2.66GHz Pentium 4, a Geforce 7600 GS (512 MB), and 1G of RAM, and I get decent framerates (12-20 fps) with most of the sliders set to about 50%, so you should have no problem with the full version with your spec PC. :D

Thanks Tom

With the new MSTS, I had just about convinced myself to get it anyway to test content creation.
I quite like FS2004, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised by FSX.

I'm running a P4 3.2G with 2Gig, a SATA drive to run FSX off, and a 256MB Geforce 7950GT card and have setting all one stop off max and running at 1280 x 1024 get an acceptable framerate (visually..as whenever I'm in the game, I can never remember how to get the framerate showing :-? ) apart from when close to the ground, when it get s a bit jerky.

At the moment, I must admit to not seeing what all the fuss is about with framerates...unless it's because I'm too used to MSTS. :-?

And I can remember seeing somewhere where the demo version is stated to be very light on graphics demand...and hence has a good framerate compared with the game proper.

FPS is given through the Shift-Z combination, cycle through until you get to it.

Doug, your PC outshines mine by quite a way, and I can run FSX quite nicely. It's not at top res-spec by any stretch but still looks better than FS9 with all (FS9) sliders to max.

The de Havilland Beaver is worth the price on its own. Once you've flown that thing off a lake in VC mode, you'll just want to get more and more.

And by the way, "pc-software" in the Amazon marketplace sells FSX Deluxe for £34.95 and I ordered mine from them around 2 pm on the Thursday before New Year. It was delivered at 10 am the following Friday morning... Less that 24 hours after ordering and at a great price.

In fact I went the whole hog and got all 3 GenX UK VFR packages at £18 a piece from play.com at the same time. The lot FSX Deluxe plus the whole England and Wales VFR for less than £100!!! What a bargain.
