Haven't picked it up yet, How does it compare to the old version & Pacific fighters? I've been u-boating and even a bit of train simming rather than flying recently so I'd not realised the new version of IL2 had been released. Any chance of a screenshot or two?

Nope, I've not picked it up yet either. Actually having a bit of trouble running IL2 and IL2:FB (discs just spin up but the sims never run) so I've been restricted to a bit of Pacific Fighters and Falcon 4: Allied Force of late.

Its the same with extra planes, skins, and maps. As a package not bad at all, and some of those russian and german jets are odd - one in particular is seriously hilarious. Ernst Heinkel was eating mushrooms that day I think!

Well I'd certainly wet my pants if I was flying it, but I don't think you'd see me smile

Call me old fashioned, but I still like those bf109's! They aren't the best performer, nor the best handling aeroplane in the package, but I still get a kick when I touch down ever so gently after trouncing the yaks and spits. Trouble is, I usually don't...

i normaly don't fly them if possible i fly the FW190 A-8 or sometimes go in a JU87 on a bombing run and shot down a fighter or two. I've flown the HE-162C once online it was good, chasing a Mig 3u i think and flying and banking at around 10 meters above the sea

I once flew a steep turn at around that height in real life, at the request of my new Zealand instructor in a C152. Believe me, a simulator simply doesn't convey how utterly barmy such flying really is. There's no PC game anywhere that can give you that seat of the pants reality of it. Nor do they give any sensation of just how much hard work it is to fly an aeroplane in hi-G maneovers. This was a time without inflatable trousers. You went round a steep turn at 300kts you felt it. I remember reading the memoirs of a british pilot who toward the end of the war, had a little contest with a rival in typhoons (it might have been tempests, but one of the two types). Neither would give up, and toward the end of the fight they were pulling tightly between the trees sweating buckets!
PC games, even the good ones, are going to struggle to give you a sensation of power. Modern training in WW2 aircraft stresses the need to accustom the newbie pilot to operating at full throttle, because invariably the roar and vibration of a 20-odd litre V12 or whatever makes them think they've got full power when in fact they don't - they simply haven't pushed the throttle far enough!
There is a nice tale about power in spitfires too. At a Farnborough show in the 50's two spitfires were scheduled to perform an air race from a standing start. Both pilots were keen to win and at the flare for GO they whacked the throttle open with total abandon. Both aircraft swung completely off the runway and taxied at high speed toward the audience, scattering top brass in their wake.
Il2 does better than most sims because it does try to be realistic and still be fun. It ain't perfect though, there are little gripes, things that could have been presented better. Its a good balance however and I like it.

Yep thats true. One aircraft that is sadly missing from IL 2 at the moment is the Typhoon i really love that aircraft but it's not their same as the HE219

I'll tell you something else just to illustrate the forces in play during flight. When Duxford first got their hands on a Grumman Bearcat they taxied it straight back to the hangar to have it checked out, because the test pilot found that the aircraft was rolling the wrong way during manoevers. What they found was that the aerodynamic load on the ailerons was such that it twisted the wing, causing a wing warp effect the other way.
There are loads of aeroplanes missing in IL2. I want to see Fokker DXX1's, Fairey Battle, Vickers Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster, Stirling, Short Sunderland, Supermarine Walrus, BV138, Heinkel 51, Arado 76, Heinkel 115, Heinkel 177, Siebel 204, Grumman Bearcat, Tigercat, Gloster Meteor, Spitfire I & II (I knkow about Battle of Britain, buts thats a new engine entirely) and probably quite a few others, plus as many cockpits as possible!

True their was going to be the Daughtless and a B29 but their where some court case's with boeing and Gruman that was ashame.
But still remeber patches that are going to be release might include new aircraft
