Not as strong as it was in the cockpit I suspect !

This pilot quite clearly blew it spectactularly. Always always choose your landing spot (normally on the 'numbers') and ensure your aeroplane arrives right there. If you arrive too high then go around. There's no shame in putting right a botched approach.

According to the report that went with the accident the runway was too short for jet aircraft anyway, but landing 2/3 of the way down it certainly didn't improve his chances :roll:

When I was training in New Zealand part of the course includes short-field technique (a good many runways in the area are grass and very short). I made the mistake of making an approach about 5 or 10 knots too fast and discovered just how hairy it can be to get it wrong. The instructor rescued me on that occaision but I never made the mistake again.
