I notice that Play.com have Flight Sim 2004. A century of Flight at 17.99 delivered. Having no experience of MSFS I am wondering if this is the one to go for. Is this the base MSFS to which I can add freeware, payware etc and more inportantly, if I buy this version is it going to be out of date in the near future?
Regards
Michael

Well I gone and got it. £17.99 from Play.com. Their website now says sold out, so I guess I got the last one. Mind you, I thought I'd got a bargain until I suddenly remembered that I would need a joystick. Bag went £24.99 into PC World's coffers in exchange for a Seitek Pro thing with rudder control. Now I just have to learn to fly the damn things.
Oh, and to finish my MSTS activities

Remember that FS is the same as MSTS - if you want decent aircraft then you need add-ons - don't bother with the default stuff.

No need to buy payware unless you can fly properly

Well I'm impressed. I've just downloaded and installed my first add-ons. Two scenery files. North West England (nicely detailed) and also the Emley Moor and Holme Moss aerials.
I'm still struggling with pitch trim and slow flight so I havn't progressed as far as landing yet. But at least I can get up there and have a look around.

If you're flying something like a C172 then just point it at the runway and it will practically land itself.

Try the tutorials? Although you fly over USA, and the instructors jokes were cheesy when Noah told them on the ark, they do get you very used to the basics of aeroplane control.
Trimming and VORs were two things I couldn't get my head around before doing the tutorials. Well worth the 10 to 20 mins you get on each.

I'm getting the hang of trimming by keeping the mouse over the trim wheel and using the mouse wheel to trim.
As for VOR. My instructor has abandoned the lesson twice because I wasn't getting the hang of it. I think I'll do a few circuits out of Blackpool and practice.
