BA 757 get a treat

Post by 1288gaje »

Today
A BA Boeing 757 got a special treat.
It has a new repaint and a special something.

The aircraft was G-CPEM
And it had a Blue Peter ship at the back.

Indeed...

Looks odd without the white underside!

Hoping to see it at LHR this weekend!

What is it in aid of? The BP yearly appeal?

Nah.
Found this from the BP website.
We unveiled the winning design from the Paint a Plane competition. It was painted on to the side of a Boeing 757 and will be seen flying around the world.

It looks quite good - but I prefer the blue undersides. I like 757s, shame orders seem to have dried up - it is the only Boeing in production with no new orders according to their site. :(

Boeing have stopped making the 757. Did so a couple of months back. I didn't know they had any left on the production line but they'll not be taking any more orders.
They've got their new (ugly) 787 in its place in the catalogue.

Really? I didn't know production had stopped... This was a few months ago I looked at their site.
The 757 was the only one of my favourite aircraft of all time I thought was still being built - now every single one is no longer in production (if you're wondering, they are: Sopwith Camel, Tiger Moth, DC-3, Piper Cub, Spitfire, VC-10, Concorde and 757).

Yeah they pulled it a couple of months ago and I think the last one has rolled off the line. It seemed strange as the -300 variant didn't appear to me to have been in production very long.
Unlike most Boeing's there were very few variants of the basic 757 until the -300 came out, but then I suppose that's what happens when you get it spot on first time  .

I got some good photos of this a/c over the weekend - I arrived at LHR with BMI, to see it being towed onto stand right through the terminal window I was standing at! I then caught it on approach at lunchtime, and departure in the afternoon. I will post them here later!

No more production for ther 757, the last, for China Eastern, was delivered a while ago!

The 752 in the shot above was returning from Edinburgh, I don't think it made it to Manchester.

Nice pics Martin.

Its not the best "special" livery (looks weird without the blue belly) but certainly not the worst.
Nice to see the engine covers with prominent Rolls-Royce badges. I've seen a good few pics recently where they've either not been applied, painted over or worn away.

No its not new. G-CPEM is just shy of its 8th birthday.

Blue Peter set up a compitition a while ago... 'Paint a Plane' they asked children to design a advertisment for the UK and how good it was...

They chose that one becuase it had flags from all contries within...

Looks quite good..

Easy to pick out without the blue belly!

Martin i think you got those pictures of it on its first flight!
The little girl i think age 8 and the 2 runners up would have been on it.
