RFP 747-200

Post by bigvern »

Just saw this in Game and made an impulse purchase. Looks quite intriguing and technical, though not in the sense that 727 Pro disappointed me. It does look to have all the modern AP systems albeit in slightly different guise.

What with that and replaying X2 from the beginning (ready for the expansion in a couple of months) poor old MSTS isn't getting much of a look in...

I know what you mean Vern. I'm struggling to get out of Nova Prospekt in HL2, I'm learning rudimentary inertial navigation systems in a 1964 BOAC VC-10, trying to get Concorde above 40,000' and 250 KIAS at the same time, and supposedly trading early in X2!!!

It's all getting a little frantic in my house. And this after years of nothing much being released and having to play with MSTS and cabviews!

Finished HL2 weeks ago, very disappointing end !!! (I never played HL1 though).

I can't seem to fly the RFPB 747, it seems to spin and crash backwards, even if I open her up to notch 8 !! Now waiting for the PMDG 747 400.

I can't even get the engines to start! Managed to get all the electrical systems and the APU up and running, but the engine start switches won't go over into the "start" position. The developer has kindly disabled Ctrl-E too.

Any hints welcome... In the meantime, back to Argon Prime and a visit to the shipyard for a Buster then off to space some pirates.

I can't get away with X2: The Threat.
I find the controls absolutely bewildering. Picked it up for a bargain price on Amazon but I think I've been spoilt and got too used to the simplicity of Freelancer.

I was thinking about RFP but I didn't like the fact they'd only modelled the P&W's. If they weren't doing GE's and RB.211's they might as well have called it 747-100.
Apparently (once you get airborne ) you can use the basic way of flying (GPS) but it also supports the CIVA INS system.

I too am patiently waiting the PMDG -400. If they render the 747-400 the way they nailed the -600 thru -900 737's it'll be quite something.

First impressions of their MD-11 are rather pleasing too.

I have only tried the 747 with the FS Approaches Vol. 1, I'll try a ground take off when one comes out of the BAMC at Rhoose, Sorry Cardiff International!!

I thought 727 Pro was very good, really had the feel of a 727 and atmosphere. Only bad thing was that the altitude hold switch tends to do unpredictable things when its needed (works fine in test flights).

I don't think I will get 727-200 then if you guys don't rate it - I'll wait for Concorde professional. :D

727 had some sound break up problems - though I think there may be a fix for this. The AP systems were also authentic to the aircraft, i.e. no autothrottle and VS/Altitude Hold cruder versions than the MSFS default. However I still can't get the engines started on the 747. The electrics and buses are up and running, the hydraulics are operational, all the fuel valves are open but the start switches won't toggle over into the start position.

Very frustrating - I can understand the author's desire for authenticity but cut those of us who just want to fly the "Lump" a bit of slack and let us use Ctrl-E to start the wretched thing.

At the end of the day, it's a 30 quid add on not some F-S.com download - alot of casual flyers are going to buy this based on the cover art then find when they read the manual it is obviously intended for very advanced users.

LOL! I treated myself to the PSS Concorde a couple of days ago. Downloaded the tutorial and set about a cold and dark start.

No Smoking and Seatbelt signs were activated early on... Then it took three hours to get around to pushback! But it's nice switching every switch and turning every dial. I bet the passengers were really peed off... :x

Fun finished at the wrong end of Runway 27L though when it refused to unstick from the tarmac, and then suddenly jumped skywards at 30 degrees and around 8000'/min!!! :o

I'll suss it yet. ;) ;)

I'm like that too Fodda - both the PSS A320 and PMDG 737 took about an hour to start from cold and dark, to get the APU on, program the FMC, attempt to start the engines, turn APU bleed on, attempt again, turn fuel pumps on, try again, disengage fuel cutoff switch, Finally!

Now I can do both in minutes!

First complete flight yesterday. Paris to New York.

What a great plane if you haven't got a force-feedback stick.

Nonetheless though, I enjoyed the Mach 2 experience, and was reminded of just how fast the plane is by taking off in the early morning from Paris and seeing a sunset in the eastern sky and landing in pitch darkness.

Just got to get all the joystick problems fixed now...
