Nice shots Paul.
Don't let the fact that there's been few replies put you off...
I find most of the decent shots that get posted on here are completely overlooked, while some trash gets the best comments.Just ignore it,I enjoyed seeing your pics anway

Hello jp4712
Fantasic pictures - something very evocative about night time photos. May I ask a question? Friend of mine was at Preston Poly in the mid-80's - vividly recalls "proper engines" such as the Class 40 featured in your Preston picture, but he'd like to know where it was taken from (if you recall) - thinks it might be off Marsh Lane.
Thanks,
asharte

Blimey, it was over twenty years ago, I can hardly recall what I did last night!
IIRC it was north of the station (which fits Marsh Lane) but it wasn't a main road - it was definitely a little side street and I poked the camera lens through some chain-link fencing. I think it may have been on the east side of the main line, could it have been some sidings on the site of the start of the Longridge branch?

Respect! Thanks for the prompt reply - my friend recalls the chain link fencing you mention as it was a good vantage point for some sort of yard with a great view of engines stabled (on his way home from a pub he can't remember the name of...!). If it wasn't Marsh Lane it wasn't far off.
Thanks,
asharte

Sorry, couldn't resist this as I was in York the other night:
York, March 1985...
...York, November 2007.
Newcastle, February 1984...
...York, November 2007.
I do believe those are the same rails in the bay at York! The make of camera is the same, but my trusty Canon AE-1 with Agfa transparency film has been replaced by a Canon EOS400D.
