Thanks for that Jonathan.jonathanmlewis wrote:Thanks, no just Top and Tailed. no 47s can not work push pull without two drivers AFAIKjbilton wrote:Hi
Were they working as push pulls?
I wasn't sure as to the type of multiple connection those 47s were fitted with, or whether the coaches were just standard.
I think the 47/7 series can work as push pull... like the Blue Pullman?
Cheers
Jon

Yeah thinking about it the Scottish 47/7s could work push pull with the DBSOs. The EWS/RES 47/7s had some kind of push pull system to reverse mail out of Willesden Mail Depot but this required two drivers I think...jbilton wrote: Thanks for that Jonathan.

I may be wrong on this, but I thought the first batch of 47/7s (the ones that ran the Scottish push pull) used an earlier version of the TDM system that was upgraded by the time it was used on the WCML, and the DBSOs had the equipment upgraded. I'm not sure that the TDM equipment in the 47/7s is active any more - anyone know?
I think there is a safety case issue with having unmanned diesels (as opposed to leccy's) propelling in case of a fire - it took EWS ages to get approval for their executive set with the 67 and ex WCML mk3s for that reason. Going back of course this was an issue with the 27s then they ran push pull in Scotland, and the fire alarm systems were modified IIRC.
All the top and tailed workings I've seen have the rear loco dead with a tail lamp attached. The Duke working in Cumbria the other weekend had 47826 dead on the back, hard work with 11 on plus a spoon!
Anyone know any more on this TDM point?

TDM 47/7's orginal batch 17 non operational now as the the DBSO's had the mod after they moved to norwich the 47/7's werent touched, although they could still connect and speak to the guards through an in train telephone, they cannot push.
TDM 47/7's 47721 - 47799 as we all know non operational in fact the only loco's in the batch that operate is 741 and a couple of others.
the 67 can work with all DVTs
the multiple socket is green circle multi which freightliner introduced.
