A long night shift! + other pics

Post by Ghostcav »

Just got back in from another night shift(learning the night shunt at Crewe & whilst waiting for my units to be refuelled I had a look around),not feeling sleepy yet so sorted out my phone pics taken mostly tonight & the night before. As said these pictures are all take on a sony ericsson W810 & whilst this phone will take really good pictures in normal conditions, dark railway yards in the night are not the best for it.

Will be setting up a fotopic site soon but until then.....

Starting with a daytime shot (been on nights all week & have forgot what daylight looks like).
Image
Dovey Junction from a 158.

All the rest are from Crewe (old diesel depot & LNWR depot).
Firstly lets get the bad bits outta the way,I mentioned the graveyard of 4 37's at the old crewe diesel depot in another thread.Well ones gone completly leaving these unfortunate trio.......
Image
37713 mostly complete.

Image
37420 in RR mostly complete.

Image
37889 has already been started on & bits of it litter the floor around it.

Anyway walking past the graveyard that is the former Crewe diesel depot I got to LNWR's yard looking for my 153 & 158 that I had to fetch up. Found the following.
Image
Image
Yes I know its only a 150,but I just like pics of heavy maintanance!
Image
Anyone who knows me knows I do like 47's so 847 sat pretty in LL blue was a treat for me.
Image
86401 a loco that I've known for a long while.
Image
D120 (45) was lying around at the top of the fuel road getting tatty.
Image
Bransons "My first trainset" stuff gets everywhere!
Image
But its still the minority at LNWR thank goodness....
Image
......As they still refurb stuff like this Mk1.
Image
Resolve was knocking about outside........
Image
.......Whilst this nice no number 20 was inside.
Image
As was this class 50,no idea which one?
Image
Also this very nice looking 47,didnt get a chance to see which one it was...
Image
...as having found my units it was time for me to leave until next time.

Nice pics.

Can I ask, as someone who hasn't really followed the real thing (railways, not cola ;) ) in a long time, why is all that stock in the depot and who owns it?

Still find it odd in 2006 to see 50s, 20s, Mk1s etc on shed in Crewe!

It is odd to still see so much real stuff ,LNWR is a real gem for proper railway equipment.
As for why its all there, well I'm not %100 on this but as far as I gather it's become a place that is still capable of repairing/servicing older railway stock. Charter companys & owners/users of older equipment use the place to have there stock worked on. It also seems to have its own fleet of stock that gets used for specials/charters etc. Also many TOC's have there rolling stock serviced/fuelled there (Arriva/Virgin/DRS) instead of having there own dedicated depots.
Wales & Borders(BR) V3.1 status.
Re-released for RW. Hopefully some of you will get it to work this time.

Carl,Yep, Arriva trains wales driver.

I know the pics are not the best quality as I only ever carry my phone around with me.With all the traction manuals & sectional appendix sections I have no room left for a proper camera in my bag. But I see so much interesting stuff out there day to day & a lot of the times in places that unless you work on the railway (Or trespass a lot) You would never see. So the camera phone is an ideal compromise especially as the phone can be turned on in camera mode only so I'm not breaking the no mobile phone switched on in the cab rule. Also I must add that any pics I take in the cab are only when the train is stationary,DRA is set if applicable & all duties carried out to ensure a safe cab. Just thought I would mention that incase someone thinks I would be daft enough to put a picture before my duties. :o

I was under the impression that Rivera trains were connected company wise to LNWR? May be totally wrong on that one though.
