the last slammer ran a week after the tour (i managed to get some photos of it at East Croydon) it was thought to be the last ever run on the 19th but Southern still had use for them. The slammers went up to Stewarts Lane in mid December for stripping. Whatever you say they are not rubbish as they have been faithfull to our railways and with them a 130 + year heritage has gone from the mainlines. If you ask me slam doors are far better for comfortability and time keeping (compared to the current junk we are being given).

a 130 year heritage? We still have Mk3s and Mk2s rolling around with slamdoors on the West Coast and East Anglia Mainlines! As for heritages, we have the HSTs still around, which are arguably the best trains ever produced here.

MK2s and MK3s have central door locking so you have to wait until a complete stand is reached before opening the doors!! Also unless I'm mistaken slammers still were wooden bodied whereas MK2s etc are steel bodied.

Wow!!! I am glad I escaped the photographing here! Well, the author snapped me twice! And it took me until the middle of January to find this thread!

I am the tall thin bloke, with a heavy silver and black bag and ginger hair!
Those who were wondering what was in my bag, the content contained no less than 2 laptops! One for Trainz and the other is for maxing when the one for trainz goes flat (I haven't got a second battery for it yet! :( )

Heres my contribution, 1866 entering London Bridge, with the photo taken WELL WITHIN the saftey zone!
Enjoy from WEN, the Trainzer teaser!

Or, more to the point, will they ever stop advertising that every tour a slam door set does is the 'last Slam Door Stock run.'
I think they're almost gone. Some are being moved from Shoeburyness to Newport docks behind a 47 :).
