Oh yes! it was a midlander's heaven(or a LMS fan's heaven). Once someone went on lizzies footplate sounded the whistle and then it started every loco, they all started whistling. if they were steaming anyway!
Is was like a steam choir

and thanks for the comments

Nice pics Kirk!
I was there today, and took virtually the EXACT same shots as you, but unfortunately I had some settings cocked-up on my camera, so the pics came out really over-exposed! GRRR!
I'm playing about in PSP8 tonight to correct them where I can, so I may be able to post some later (not as good as yours though!).

It was a bit of a b**ger with all the people getting "in the way" when setting up shots, wasn't it? I guess it can't be helped with crowds like that!

Shame the "Super D" couldn't make an appearance, due to "contractual problems" (yeah, right!), but all in all, it was a great day!

Cheers

:D :D :D

Great shots Kirk! Shame I couldn't have been there - I went in '03 though - a great show then! 2003 did have one over on this year, as there were main line shuttles to Chester with 4965 and 48151 - a great ride was had with the 8F that day!

Disappointed to see the NRM returned the smoke deflectors to 4472. I still reckon it looks better without!

Don't get me started on this. I know it's frustrating but those people want to enjoy themselves too and at a crowded exhibition like this you often can't move without getting in someones way. You shouldn't shout at them-especially if they're children as they are our future and without them, most of those engines will end up at best with a dusty retirement on a plinth somewhere.
I rememeber when I went to the Groudle Glen Railway gala in July-absolubtley FANTASTIC. But the second day was spoiled by a selfish photographer who lectured me when I got in the way of his video. One selfish man tainted the entire weekend. I also remember, when I was 10, going to the Bluebell Railway's 2001 "Winter Steam Up" gala. I didn't very often get the chance to go to galas then so this was quite exciting for me. But again, the day was spoiled by a selfish photographer who, when I accidentally moved into his shot, said not a polite "Could you move, please?" but "Oi!". B******.
My golden rule of photography is "don't get cross with people who get in the way. They have a right to be there too." And I have very little respect for those who do not share the same philospy.
