Or 'Bannisters'.....salopiangrowler wrote:Class 31's were built by Brush Loughborough with the original intention of fitting Mirlees engines as per toffee apples ie, Class 30's 31001-3101? which were victims of standardisation as te rest of the 31 fleet came out with an EEsvrt power unit. So all 31's are English Electric Baby Brushes or more commonly Peds, Goyles, and Brians.

Actually they were all built with Mirlees engines...some even uprated to 1600hp and 2000hp....before the whole fleet were re-engined.
Cheers

All the peds were built with the Mirrlees prime mover and re-engined - the 31/0s differed through their control equipment, All in all, they were lucky to survive the 60's, let alone the 70's, 80's, 90's and incredibley, the 21st century!salopiangrowler wrote:Class 31's were built by Brush Loughborough with the original intention of fitting Mirlees engines as per toffee apples ie, Class 30's 31001-3101? which were victims of standardisation as te rest of the 31 fleet came out with an EEsvrt power unit. After the re-engineing they settled down...and were reliable freight locos.
I think the ETH conversions and their age doesn't help.
The original conversions were to work ECS mainly.
I do remember being dragged in a failed Lincoln Derby heavy from Woodhouses....and it was a cracking run...didn't know DMUs could go that fast.
Cheers
