Yep, 31s are brush, I meant to put sulzer

Brush engineering with an EE engine - in theory - hellfire, in practice - gutless and slow!

So all 31's are English Electric Baby Brushes or more commonly Peds, Goyles, and Brians.
Or 'Bannisters'.....

I'm fully aware of all this, just I class diesels by their engines, not makers ;)

Oi...leave it... ........

Actually they were all built with Mirlees engines...some even uprated to 1600hp and 2000hp....before the whole fleet were re-engined.
Cheers

All the peds were built with the Mirrlees prime mover and re-engined - the 31/0s differed through their control equipment, All in all, they were lucky to survive the 60's, let alone the 70's, 80's, 90's and incredibley, the 21st century!

Lucky...Lucky... :o

After the re-engineing they settled down...and were reliable freight locos.
I think the ETH conversions and their age doesn't help.
The original conversions were to work ECS mainly.
I do remember being dragged in a failed Lincoln Derby heavy from Woodhouses....and it was a cracking run...didn't know DMUs could go that fast. :D
Cheers

Must be a thing with different peds. 31270 is decent, however 31435 is a bag of nails....
