SWT Slam-door Farewell Part 1 (Staff Sat June 18th)

Post by trains2 »

Hello all,

I took a cycle ride up to Micheldever after hearing about the SWT Slammer Farewell Tour for staff and that it was running today as well as next weekend (public). Thanks to Champy for the times. :)

Found a great spot trackside about 1/4 mile out of Micheldever on a bend, so could see everything coming and going. Also, it happened to be engineering time on the Basingstoke - Salisbury line, so therefore all West of England services were diverted via Southampton and Romsey, yey!

So plenty of action, and it was nice to see the slammers back on the track. I was a bit annoyed however because they're wern't the best pictures ive ever taken, probably because i was so excited and so didn't come out as well as i wished. But never mind, it was nice to see them and i will be seeing them again next week at Southampton Central, when they are running again. Kingfisher Tours are also running a steam excursion using 34067 Tangmere, so will probs see that too. :)

But for now, enjoy!

I'd just like to point out also, after two people have both said "how did i get so close?" I am not infact trespassing, as obvious as it may look, for some reason the fence comes in right up close to the track, so that is how i am so close! Just thought i'd tell u all that before someone else says it! :)

Does anyone know when Tangmere is going through Southampton on Saturday 18th? May go up there to see both of them go through.

Im gonna go down quite early just to be sure, and also to watch generally, so see you there!! :)

The company running it, Kingfisher, might publish times, but i don't know, so check up on their website regularly.

I write this post after cursing to myself a few times after hearing Tangmere 34067 go through Winchester at 0948 - very early, it mustve left Weymouth at about 8.30. :o So anyone London bound, it will be there in about 50mins, so get ur arse up to a station quick. :)

Im still popping down to Southampton though to see the Slammers, so will report back later today.
