37425s Cornish holiday

Post by jdjonny »

A 37 in Cornwall is, these days, sadly very rare. If you'd said to me at the start of the month that we'd see not only a 37 down on the clay, but a BR blue one at that, I probably would have laughed. Nontheless, it happened, and here's the pics!

The reason that the 37, recently repainted at Toton for the Welsh Valley Lines traffic, arrived down here, was because of the cancellation of a crucial freight train on Monday night. This left St Blazey depot short of a loco, but luckily the allocation Gods were shining on us, and instead of sending a light engine 66 from Newport to Blazey, EWS sent down their "new" toy.

Before I took these photos, the 37 had worked to Penzance on fuel tanks. We all expected it to return on 6c43, but very surprisingly it found its way onto the clay. It worked a train of CDAs from Crugwallins (loaded) to Fowey docks (via Lostwithiel, obviously), then the return empties from Fowey docks to Crugwallins - then back to bed at St Blazey :)

Major thanks to the very enthusiastic crew for the fine English Electric display... 37425 is very loud as well as pretty!

Bit closer, these pics are the wrong side of the sun, but were a chance for me to get up close to the loco - something I try to do (whats the fun in standing far away from the loco and taking a pic - you never really see it properly. Do both if you can!)

A quick trip to Golant caught the loco again, here she is entering the harbour

Possibly my personal favorite pic of 2005 so far - a BR blue tractor on the Fowey branch and a decent tide to suit. 37425 casts her reflection on the harbour.

A side on shot for any reskinners interested... leave a message and you can have the 12mp image

The up working returning through Golant. I didn't have the engergy to walk over to the "real" location, and just stood on the village green to take this pic... came out ok, considering...

Image
Another quick peek at the loco at Lostwithiel running around - I have a video of it thrashing away from the yard if anyone wants it

Todays thanks go out to VJM for gen updates, and "Simming" of these forums for texting me the progress of the tanks whilst I was sat in a revision class. Gutted...

Enjoy,

Jon

Got it again!

37425 has been enjoying her holiday so much, she's decided to extend it to an extra day. Todays working was 6b26 - the 13:55 Burngullow -> St. Blazey traffic - although as usual for this turn, it left a little early.

When I arrived in the area there was thick fog, so I didn't want to go anywhere too far from the track, otherwise you wouldn't have seen the train in the pics. So I had to comprimise, and go to a location that otherwise wouldn't be my first choice - St Blazey canal path. Still, the photos have come out reasonably OK...

The scum who'd graffitti 37411 really need locking up - that loco was MINT. Thoughtless.... kids? :-?

Anyway, 425 should work back to Newport in the early hours of tomorrow, so puersumably it'll be able to work the rhymneys tomorrow evening. Only reason it's going back is because ATW are whinging that they want their loco back ;)

Richard - yes indeed, Christmas has come early - I've photted 2 large logo class 37s in the South West in a month  37190 at the WSR and now 425 right on my doorstep. Never in a million years thought that'd happen!

It Was A Beast!!!

I Went to St Erth And Camborne to Film it on the Tanks. At St Erth It went through with a little bit of thrash, but at Camborne There Was So Mega Thrash, as he got stopped at the signal, waiting a slot to Truro. He left the Platform on Full Bore, V.V.V Rateable!!!
