Scanrail Tour 2004: Something to warm up!

Post by ronik24 »

Hi, guys!

I still have to work on the lots of pictures I got from Scandinavia (half way through with editing ;) ) and also need some more programming on my new website. Additionally I am leaving to Croatia for a week now (need to relax after all the action, don't worry notebook is coming with me for work :D ).

So, to do a little warm-up, here is something to start with:

(Flight from Vienna Schwechat Intl. to Stockholm Arlanda Intl. by Austrian Arrows Fokker 70, July 4, 2004)

Soon after take-off you can see this:

Vienna Central Shunting Yard Kledering:
From front to back: exit group, sorting group and main hump (entry group can't be seen entirely)
Image

A closer look at the sorting group, with the loco harp in the foregroud, not much action on a sunday morning ;)

Nice view at the inner city of Vienna:
Combined Southern (tracks going to the left)/Eastern (tracks going to the front) station in the foreground, if you know your way around you can recognize a lot of other stuff, too. For example the Schnellbahn tracks and Wien Mitte station. About in the center you can find St. Stephen's cathedral, above the Southern station you can see Belvedere castle.

Already went there on some photo tours: Inzersdorf station on the line from the Western railway to Kledering yard and on to Hungary

Matzleinsdorf yard on the Southern railway

Construction site of the new tunnel that will connect Southern and Western railways, tunnel entrance at the Southern railway between Meidling and Hetzendorf stations. On the bridge you can see two pictures above mentioned line running through Inzersdorf a little further on

Now to the Western station premises

Schönbrunn castle with Western station yards in the background

And finally:
A last view at the River Danube with lots of ships near Greifenstein hydro power station (the bridge-like thingy on top  )

Greetings,
Roni

Nice. It's amazing what you see from above, I flew over London on Saturday, and could pick out Euston easily (thanks to Thames-Mersey!), and could see all the yards (the Piccadilly line LUL depot)
