My Railfest Photos

Post by martinhodgson »

I visited yesterday for the day. Unfortunately the weather wasn't ideal for photography, so I missed some photo opputunities due to rain, and some photos didn't turn out due to the dull conditions. But regardless, I have most of my photos at:

Nice photos :)

I was also there yesterday, braving the pouring rain...

http://richsoft.fotopic.net/

I had a good day despite the rain, but I had to stand up on a packed Voyager all the way to Sheffield before getting a seat on my way back home :(

Cheers

Very nice Martin,

390045 gave me memories, it was the one I had a cab ride on :)

I went on Bank Holiday Monday in full sun, and was reasonably impressed, although the layout of the site was attrocious.

My shots are online.

Oh, OK. Must just have been busy, but the only thinkgs I had to queue for were the Pendolino and 4472.

Site layout wasn't ideal, but they were very limited as to what they could do. I'm amazed at how close you could get to the engines, walking on the tracks etc - Health and Safety must have been bribed!

Yep, all very friendly. Letting kids play with the controls of the 171 - albeit isolated controls

I managed to get there yesterday - cloudy but dry. Yes, the close access was excellent - I prayed noone would fiddle with the cylinder cocks whilst I was photographing 1 or 2 steaming locos :-? Also, apart from a few unaware people, most were really tolerant of photographers - waiting for shots to be completed before wandering into view - so thanks to them. (better than most steam galas with the so-called "enthusiasts").

The only disappointment was missing 60009 leaving York on the special - times I had were 12.00 departure, but it got altered to ~11.20 - I only found out after standing on the NRM balcony for 40' The 3440 runs made up for it, though.

BTW - become a member of the NRM - free entry, no queues :D

Well considering there is unlikely to be another Railfest for a while (I can't see it becoming annual practically), and the current one ended nearly 6 hours ago, I'd suggest it's a bit late to bother

Interesting you say that, Martin. I got talking to the chap driving the Rocket replica who said that due to the obvious success of Railfest, a cut-down version may be organised annually :) . Besides, it's not a bad idea to support the NRM anyway - they do a good job in the circumstances.
