Giving one of my wagons a "new" life.

Post by kieranhardy »

I got a bit bored so decided to add a new little feature to my layout. Last night while looking in the garage i discovered an old triang yellow wagon missing a buffer and coupling, so decided how i could put it to good use.

So i took the wheels off then removed one of the doors, i also painted the inside black.

I then set about painting the rest of it brown and trying to find things i could put in it, i thought about coal and ash but i thought of something better... rubbish!! I found an old broken signal, some barrels, boxes, shrubs etc and got stuck in.

And this is the result.

I also added a bit of scatter, coal and chalk dust to finish it off so here is the end result...

While the scatter looks a bit "too much" on the images, it looks a lot better in real life.

I actually quite enjoyed doing this, and it only took a couple of hours.

Cheers.

Fantastic, its things like this that make model railways.
Its either the light at the end of the tunnel....or a train coming the other way

Excellent job Kieran. As Chris says, it's these little things that bring a model railway to life.

Thanks very much, just added something else to the wagon, someone on another forum suggested rusting up the wheels and using them.

I will post a couple of shots of it on the layout when i find a suitable place :)

I think the area immedeantly around your distressed waggon needs a bit more of the same treatment. It cinda looks odd in such a pristeen area to have a derilict wagon.

Looks good anyway. :)
