Quite a while ago i purchased a little ratio wagon, as i havent made a wagon before i kept putting it off as i didnt think i would be able to do it.
But today i received the plastic cement i was waiting for and got started:

The roof will be painted white when i get the correct paint. I have to say i am quite proud of this and it wasn't difficult at all!

Looks good, could do with a bit of light weathering though. Where can I see more pictures of your route?

Cheers, i will do some weathering to it when the roof is painted.

The layout is a shed scene and plenty of shots of it can be found here:

It looks as though I'm not the only one who's had problems with the Ratio tension-lock couplings then... :x I could never get them to line up enough to couple automatically, or fall back down when they were raised by uncoupling ramps.. the list is endless. I'm seriously considering scale 3-link couplings - they may be more fiddly, but they work! About the red crosses on the doors, are they a transfer, or were they masked/painted?

They were already on the doors, there was a sticker that had a cross on but not sure where it was supposed to go, not sure where i put it now!

Looks very good Kieran - far better than my solitary attempt at 00 gauge kitbuilding that went very wrong indeed! (Partly why I transferred to 16mm scale - just a little bit less fiddly!)

Good looking layout, I'm more of a diesel era fan myself, but I don't mind the odd steam era layouts.
It's a travesty that Pengwynn Crossing has been altered into steam though.......

Does that mean that it came "pre-painted" so to speak? I've dabbled with cooper craft kits, but not Ratio ones (apart from for scenery), and am looking slightly more interested in their GWR coach kits if there's no lining to do! :D

This particular wagon came pre painted as does another one that's featured on the pack which is a "S R" gunpowder van. Im not sure if any of their other wagons come prepainted.

To answer the 'Red X' transfer mystery:
The doors on the real gunpowder vans were different to those on the standard Iron Minks, not having the recessed panel in the middle of each door. The transfers were included to enable the red door X markings to be restored after painting if you wanted to rebuild the doors to the correct pattern.

The Iron Mink van design was built by private wagon builders for other railway companies and some industrial users - Ratio also produced pre-painted Iron Minks as an SR Gunpowder van (ex LSWR) in brown, a Great Northern (GN) gunpowder van in white with red lettering and as a yellow Ferrocrete Portland Cement van, which were all authentic liveries.

Ratio also did some fictional pre-painted kits (using their LMS and GW van moldings) in Badger Beer, Huntsman Ales and Harvey's Bristol Cream liveries.

Took a couple of snaps of the wagon complete with "dirty" white roof, alongside my new addition to the layout, a very smart British Railways van.

Don't worry, its not permanent. It cna be run as either kettle  or diesel :D I much prefer operating it in 80s mode....

You get to operate Pengwynn Crossing?

Where exactly is it living now, what's the current length of it and will it be attending any show in diesel mode near me, (cambs area). Sorry for all the questions, but it was this layout that first got me interested in Cornish China clay workings.
