Thanks for that Sam.

But I wanted to know if anyone actually carried out the transformation for you, like a service.

Thanks for that anyway! :)

I think you can find people that make the kits up, separatly form the manufacturer. Not sure really.

Whether the guy is still in business or not I don't know, but at some of the Southern area exhibitions we attended in 2003/2004 we would meet up with a guy running his stall doing RTR conversions. His work included stripping / modifying / respraying / rebuilding / decalling etc.
Models I remember seeing on his stall - Airfix 2F to DBSO, Scotrail, Intercity and Anglia liveries; Hornby 155 to a pair of 153's in 3 or 4 liveries. He was also doing 47 to 57 conversions prior to the RTR 57's coming on the market. Like a number of 1 man bands this was a hobby thing for him to earn beer money and not a full time job.
There are a number of these guys (and girls) out there who provide this conversion service, it is a matter of finding them.
Try looking in the model press or visit a local exhibition.
I do recall Millfield Models at Model Rail Scotland and they will be at Bradford at the end of the month. If memory serves me well they offer some sort of conversion / repsray service (but it may be restricted to N gauge) - Need to check them out.
