A nice job of the painting :)

I am currently playing with a new type of 2mm track, using track bases created in nylon using a 3D printer. Close up an unpainted it looks like it is made from sugar cubes, but once painted it should look ok. This photo shows it sprayed with grey primer.

Thanks. :) For anyone interested in the painting aspect, I highly recommend Tamiya masking tape - it is absolutley amazing stuff, and its only £3.50 (give or take few pennies) for about a 20m wreel!

I have been working on my Wessex again; updating the livery into 2401's new colours. Unfortunatley the lines of the old swoosh are still visible, I shall have to sort it out, it's better on the other one though as I hadn't painted that one in the 'standard' livery first.

More pics to follow soon of the other end - nearly finished! :)

When changing livery or style of livery the only certain thing to do is strip the paint back and start again. As you rightly say "You can see the old swirls under the new". And Yes Tamiya masking tape is the BIZ.

Whats the best stuff to use for striping back paint. I know it's got to be somethin which don't damage the plastic underneeth but what is the best for the job?

Aye, something like sandpaper, although I find that too gritty, so you'll want something finer like emery paper (I think that's its name).

I think you can get paint strippers for plastic models, but dunno if its any good what with the chemicals etc in it.

Precision Paints Super Strip.
Put it on with a paintbrush or tootbrush, leave it a while and rinse under soapy water. Straight back to the plastic.

Right, more pics, but first of all, a rant!

Bow pens, what useless things! I borrowed one (albeit an old one) from a club member to do the lining on my Wessex, of course trying it out on some paper first. Seemed to work ok on the paper, nice straight line with the ruler, but paint was a bit faint. Anyway, tried it on the Wessex, and just left a nice curvy intermitent fat line on it and I wasn't pleased! So gave up after 2 goes at this, in favour of masking again, which is rather easier. :)

Anyway, here are the results, which are so much better than what was previously attempted!

1st Class end - this is the newly painted end, i.e. not a repaint as the other end is:

Jumper cables, which also carry the power for the lighting units (I'm not using standard off the track power, in-train power in the buffet car)

Buffet... :

...which also houses the motor:

Motor has been swipped from a Bachy 158, which can be seen on the right also being repainted into SWT colours and will run as light stock behind my 159. Also seen is 66 243, which I have recently renumbered - not a nice job with all that corregated effect stuff, got there eventually.

Cheers
