Hi All,

I was considering buying a BR STD Class 2 Kit from DJH and wndered if anyone had any experiance with this or indeedother DJH Kits.

Made a couple, including the 9f, about 15 years ago: couldn't fault them, lovely models, straightforward to build with a bit of common sense and medium skill levels, they ran beautifully and looked the part.

If nothing's changed in that time, I'd recommend them: I would expect they've improved if anything.

I have built quite a few and got some unopened boxes on the shelf.

Good kits to build but it takes time.

My tip is to paint them as you go. Saves problems when you can't reach a bit without dismantling.

My dad's built loads - he says they're all excellent kits - and the finished results are amazing!

make sure you have like a hornby new loco drive motor, because the mashima.... etc motors are murder to run in

How long do you need to run the mashima motor in for , iwas told by a freind that they are the better motor, If itis just a case of runing in for longer I would be willig to go for that.

well, im not sure of this but some motors that you usually get with a ready built kit, they sound like a lawnmower and stop on the points

The mashima motors are good quality, nice and powerful!

Regarding motors:

Buhler are exetremely good but difficult to get hold of - they are used by both Bachmann and LGB R-T-R Models and from my experince are the best around. Also I believe Hornby have adopted them in some of there recent models.

Generally speaking, the higher the pole number the better the motor, the industry standard is 5 pole now (it used to be 3), - Buhler 5 or 7 pole and your onto a winner.

I know this is going to make me sound stupid, but there web site says not suitable for 1st radius curves,
I realise tha I may need to reallign some of my track but I am not sure how much, My layout is basically a rounded rectangle ie there are straights between all curves.
The recomendation is 750mm radius or 30" radius , how exactly would i achieve this with ready made track?

I see, what sort of loco are you looking for, not all of them, go round extreme curves, I had a Q7 built for me, goes round the most sharpest of curves, but i had the middle wheels flangeless.

I am looking for the Br Standar class 2 2-6-0.

At the moment Ia going to have to relay some of my track as the curves are a little too sharp for my Bachman peaks ,so I may as well make sre that I make it ok for the DJH kit at the same time.
Im just not sure which track ieces to use.

use flexi track, but run your biggest engine along the track or the really bad spots before you fix it completely.

the class 2 should be fine along the track, but ask anyway on the phone at djh
